Learning Activities Greet and welcome students Establish routine.

- Take an A3 paper as you walk in Remain in new seating plan.
- Sit in the theme groups
- Take out a pen
- Log on
- Open and read instructions on Google Classroom

20 mins Quick Sketches Exercise
- Fold your A3 paper into 4
- Each section of the page and on the back, you will be
sketching what I say in the time limit given
- For example an apple in 20 seconds, ball dress in 30 seconds
etc.
- Then moving onto forced fitted theme ideas such as force fit
an apple into your theme in 2 mins
- Section 1: Small objects in 30 secs
- Section 2: Small objects in 10 secs
- Section 3: Theme objects/ideas in 20 secs
- Section 4: Theme objects/ideas in 2 mins
- Section 5: Forced fitted theme idea in 2 mins
- Section 6: Forced fitted theme idea in 30 secs
- Section 7: Themed visual media in 5 mins with essential
info/what you think needs to go on this (use last 2 sections for
this)
5 mins Discussion: Essential Information
- Discussion on the board on what has to go on any
promotional material
- All students roll to the front of the class
40 mins First Concept Development
TAKE ROLL - Using some of the imagery from the Forced Fitting activity
and the Quick Sketches Exercise we just did you will:
BELL - SMALL - Create a complete POSTER concept on an A4 page including
BREAK all essential information
- Pick what you would like to use from your research and ideas
- Sketch with minor details
The objective of this activity is to allow students
to think quickly and not spend time on details of
a sketch. The aim is to focus more on the idea
and less on the aesthetic or how good it looks.
That can be developed at a later stage. The
varying time differences allows the students to
see what would happen if they spend more time
on a concept and how their thinking changes
with time constraints. Forced fitting is reinforced
in this activity and reiterates a technique they
can use to create concepts of their own.
Students will apply their theme research into
this activity. Quick and fun activity to engage
students and invoke creativity.
Students need to know what information has to
go on their promotional material
Students are learning to apply their ideas and
research, create connections to generate a
concept to meet the brief. This is just the first
concept that they will be doing. This may
require a lot of time so the next activities may
be reconsidered for a later day depending on
how this goes. However I would like this to be a
quick generation of a concept.

10 mins Discussion: Applying Concept to Different Method
- Discussion on the board on how to apply the concept they
have created to a new method of advertising
30 mins First Concept on Different Methods
- Give students another A4 sheet of paper
- Using the same poster concept sketch your concept on a
different method of advertising
- For example, how would your concept look like if it was an
Instagram post, Facebook cover photo etc.
- Aim for 3 methods
5 mins End of Lesson / Extension
- Take photos of your concepts and sketches
- Complete and hand in Theme Research assignment due
today
- Hand all your papers in before you leave
- Thank students for engagement and effort
Model to students how size, proportion,
placement, alignment etc is all that changes to
fit poster concept on a new method of
advertising. How can students apply what they
have learnt to a new method of advertising.
Students should be able to make connections to
what they have been learning in previous
lessons and assignments and apply it to their
concept development.
Students need to learn how to adapt designs to
different mediums and know that it is not very
difficult. Once they have a foundation idea, they
can then apply this to other methods of
advertising. The base idea in this instance is a
poster. I would like to encourage them to think
differently and not default to posters.
Keeping artefacts for portfolio. Reiterate the
importance of meeting deadlines.
