Equipment

1. Purpose and scope of this document


Safety equipment such as personal protective equipment, personal life saving
equipment, primary life saving equipment, fire fighting equipment, emergency systems
and equipment as well as operational equipment should be checked and maintained
regularly as required by SOLAS, flag state regulations and SMM Chapter E
Maintenance of Ship and Equipment.

2. Validity of this document


This document is valid from 02-April-2009 on board all ships of the companys fleet and
the companys head office itself.
The following documents will be cancelled with the validity of this procedure:
This procedure does not release anyone from the obligation to comply with other
national and / or international regulations.

5. Description of process
The procedure for maintenance of ship and ships equipment are described in SMM
Chapter E Maintenance of Ship and Equipment. Additional all vessels are equipped
with a planned maintenance system to ensure that safety and operational equipped
are checked and maintained in time.

5.1 Maintenance and Inspections by Service Companies


The service requests for the safety equipment should be sent to the respective fleet
team under the aspect that the requested services can be summarised for a single port.
This handling will help to reduce the workload of each participating party. Additionally
this may lead to a reduction of expenses.

5.2 Maintenance and Inspections by Crew


Certain inspections shall be carried out and documented by the ships crew.
These inspections are:
thorough half year inspection for working aloft equipment
annual inspection of all fire extinguishers
annual inspection of the CO2 cylinders (measuring of liquid gas level)

5.2.1 Annual Inspection of fire extinguishers


The annual inspection of the fire extinguisher includes all fire extinguishers on board,
irrespective of the extinguishing media such as powder, foam or CO2. The annual
inspection of fire extinguisher should be carried out by crew.
The inspection of fire extinguisher should be documented
o on OS&HMM Form J09 Certificate for Annual Inspection of Fire Extinguishers
and CO2 Cylinders and
o by labelling each fire extinguisher on board with special stickers provided by
company at the beginning of the year.
A copy of the filled in and signed OS&HMM Form J09 should be sent via ships mail
to the respective fleet team.

5.2.2 Annual Inspection of CO2 Cylinders


The annual inspection of CO2 cylinders includes of CO2 cylinders on board, these are
o CO2 cylinders for engine room and cargo holds
o CO2 cylinders for galley vent duct
o CO2 cylinders for paint store
o CO2 cylinders for scavenge air receiver

For the annual inspection each vessel should be equipped with an ultrasonic liquid
level measuring device.

The inspection should be documented on OS&HMM Form J09 Certificate for


Annual Inspection of Fire Extinguishers and CO2 Cylinders. This form should be
filed on board. A copy should be sent via ships mail to the respective fleet team.

5.2.3 Calibration of Ultrasonic Liquid Level Measuring Device


The Ultrasonic Liquid Level Measuring Device shall be calibrated prior using, e.g. by
checking the water level within a glass receptacle.
