Idea:

Part 1:
I wish to propose a design, manufacture and build project of an industrial scale CNC
capable of shaping a large number of materials, with special functionality including but
not limited to laser cutting, automatic tool switching, 4,5,6 axis actuation etc. The
specifications of such machine would be discussed and the machine would function
according to such specifications in order to facilitate the creative license of Koura
studios to pursue traditional manufacturing techniques.
Part 2:
As I am a young mechanical engineer with big ambitions, I wouldnt be confident to
undertake the full design, manufacture and build project since I have limited experience
in building CNC machines. Also as I am working full time, the scope of the project
would be unrealistic. I wish to propose an intermediary step in which I design and build
a small desktop CNC capable of cutting and shaping a limited number of materials, with
traditional 3 axis design. This desktop CNC would facilitate the rapid prototype of
models which would enable Koura studios to develop design ideas faster and more
realistically.
Part 3:
Although the development of the desktop CNC would assist me in gaining the
necessary experience to understand the complexity of CNC building and ultimately
serve in the development of an industrial size more powerful, precise machine, I
personally think that a desktop CNC could be a nice contribution to any member of the
DIY maker community. Such if the desktop CNC is designed and engineered correctly it
could serve as a marketable product in its own right.

Project Goal:
Design, manufacture and assemble the desktop CNC machine according to
specifications provided by Koura Studios to be used for rapid model and product
manufacturing.
Method: (D-cnc)
1. Machine specifications: I will provide a questionnaire and according to responses I
will build a specification sheet for the D-cnc machine. This process should be
iterative.
2. Design concepts: I will provide a number of design concepts for the movement,
materials, control system, and esthetic. This process should be iterative.
3. I will design a full cad model including all necessary parts, part sketches, assembly
sketchs, all standard part data sheets, electronic wiring sketchs, bill of materials
including quantity and price per machine.
4. I will test the given design for strength, fatigue, deflection and assess the precision of
the design.
5. I will simulate each aspect of the machine specifications in order to gauge if the
design will meet all the specifications.
6. Order, assemble, ship, install, thats it
