COLUMN TESTING FIXED-FIXED

AIM
To determine buckling load for the given specimen

APPARATUS REQUIRED
Column Setup
Dial Gauge
Load Cell with Indicator

FORMULA

4 2 EI
Pcrip
L2
Where,

Pcrip = Critical load for the column in N

E = Youngs Modulus in N/m2
I = Moment of inertia in m4
L = length of column in m

PROCEDURE
1. The column for which the buckling had to be found out is placed on two edges of
column apparatus
2. Now, the column is Fixed-fixed in nature.
3. The weight are added on both sides and the correspondingly deflection are noted
down.
4. The experimental buckling load is calculated using the formula.
5. The theoretical buckling load is calculated using formula.
6. The % error is calculated by comparing the values.
