Introduction
This Grade 4 Language Arts Answer Key
booklet provides guidance in marking
students work. appear.
Some exercises have answers that are
nonnegotiable. There is only one acceptable
answer. Other exercises give students
latitude.
The Answer Key provides the specific
wording that is not negotiable. The students brackets.
answer should contain this wording as
specified. The key also indicates where
students have latitude in what they write. As
a rule, the further the students go in the
program, the less specific the Answer Key
specifications are because students have
learned a variety of optional ways of creating
acceptable sentences and paragraphs.
Key Symbols
The Answer Key uses symbols to show
optional parts of responses, ideas that may
be paraphrased and acceptable wording
alternatives.
PARENTHESES ( ) around a word or group
of words indicates that the part is optional.
The student response is correct if this part
does not appear.
Example:
Make an upside-down A (that is) one
inch high.
