1.0 Preamble
It is proposed to widen the existing NH4B & NH348 (Old SH-54) to Six/Eight lane on the
boundaries of proposed Navi Mumbai international Airport. This project has been awarded for
execution to M/S J.Kumar and J.M. Mhatre JV by the owner 'Mumbai-JNPT Road Company'.
The structural design of the Flyovers and bridges in this project has been carried out by
Structcon Designs Pvt.Ltd'.

The viaduct superstructure has been supported on the piercap through five bearings on each side of
pier. The superstructure has been analysed for the loads defined above in load case 3 to 6.
The reactions at bearing locations for those load cases are then applied on piercap top at
appropriate bearing locations.

5.0 Evaluation of Live Load reactions on Piercap :- (As per cl. 204 of IRC:6-2014.)
Live loads reactions for substructure design have been determined from a separate model.
The analysis model consists of 2 adjecent spans of flyovers 24m + 32m. These span are separated
by a gap of 40mm.Main longitudinal Girders, cross diaphragms are defined as line elements.
Supports are defined at bearing locations.

1) All relevant live loads combinations as per IRC 6 have been defined.
2) Impact factor, congestion factor and distance between two successive trains longitudinally
are kept as per IRC:6:2014.For details refer section:4.0,section ii & iii.
3) Above load positions are placed transversely at such eccentricity so as to get critical effect
on the substructure.
4) These set of live load trains are moved along the longitudinal direction using moving load
command in STAAD.
5) A single position from the generated load cases is identified such as to get maximum
total vertical reaction on the pier for a particular load case.
6) Another set of load position is identified which will give maximum longitudinal
moment on the pier.

Piles, pilecap and piers are checked for only one side loading i.e. Dead load, SIDL and SSIDL.
Primary cases are defined-Case-195 to 198-when only one side is dislodged.
For these cases only dead load,SIDL and SSDL on the span are considered.
In these cases due to loading only one side,the longitudinal moment on Pile will be maximum
and hence piles has also been checked for this case.
The centrifugal force acts at a height of 1.2m above the level of carriageway.
Hence the lever arm from centre of piercap = 4.893 m

11.0 Conclusion:
Substructure for typical 24m span of viaduct has been analysed. All vertical, horizontal
and live loads as per IRC recommendations have been applied.
Adequacy of 4 pile group of 1200mm dia for free pier was checked.
Analysis results shows that the pile loads are within limits of their respective pile capacities
recommended in Geotechincal report in this area. Hence, specified number of piles can
be considered adequate for fixed pier in Ramp 1 -Section 2

This report presents design of pier. The substructure model comprising of pilecap, pier and
piercap has been analysed for relevant primary loads and their combinations as per IRC:6.
Analysis results from substructure analysis has been utilized for pier design in this report.
Superstructure has been supported through piercap on a single pier. Hence, the pier is basically a
Cantilevered column subjected to bia-axial moment. Therfore, design forces and moments at bottom of
pier has been extracted from design results and used in pier design further.
Note: As the Clause 218.9, IRC 6 - 2014 is not applicable to Pier, Moment are reduced by 35%.
