Operating Instructions

Introduction
TheZXT120isaZWavetoIRextenderforairconditioner(AC),
(Figure1),itworkswithanyZWavecompliantgatewayorcontroller
bytranslatingZWaveThermostatCommandstoACIRcontrolcode.
UsercanselecttheIRcodefromthebuiltincodelibraryofZXT120,
oruselearningfunction,byusingZWaveConfigurationCommands
accordingtotheparametertable.ZXT120isalsowithbuiltin
temperaturesensorwhichallowsgatewayorcontrollertogetthe
currentroomtemperature.

ZXT120canbeconfiguredaseitherFrequentlyListeningRouting
Slaves(FLiRS)orAlwaysListeningnodeafterexclusionprocess
(beforeinclusionprocess).

FLiRSnodetypeisforbatteryoperatedapplicationsanditwillenter
sleepmodefrequentlyinordertoconservebatteryconsumptionthat
canprovidetheflexibilityifthereisoutof5Vdcpowersource.Also,
usercanplacetheunitinanywhereathome.

AlwaysListeningnodetypeisfortheneedsoffastresponse
application.Itworkswith5Vdcpowersource.AlwaysListeningnode
canactasarepeater,whichwillretransmittheRFsignaltoensure
thatthesignalisreceivedbyitsintendeddestinationbyroutingthe
signalaroundobstacleandradiodeadspots.

ZXT120supportsNetworkWideInclusion(NWI)andExploreFrames.
ItalsosupportsZWavenetworkswithmultiplegatewaysand
controllers.LikeeveryZWaveaccessory,userwillneedtoincludethe

ZXT120intotheirZWavenetworkusingtheprimarycontroller.Then,
theusercanuseeithertheprimarycontrollerorsecondarycontroller
toconfigureandsetuptheZXT120usingZWavesconfiguration
commandclass.Oncetheconfigurationandsetupiscomplete,the
controllercanuseZWaveThermostatcommandsclasstocontrol
theirIRcontrolledairconditionerthroughtheZXT120.

LImportantInformation
Different brand or model of air conditioner has different
function. For example, some air conditioner only support

temperaturesetfrom18 C30 C,ifuserset17 Congateway,
ZXT120willnotrespond.
There are more than 1 code for each brand, some does not
support heat, if user selected a code that does not support
heat but the original air conditioner supports heat function,
please continue to try next code until the correct one is
selected.

Afteralllearningcompleted,usercangobacktotheZXT120
controlpageonthegatewayfornormaloperation.
OnthegatewayUI,usercanonlyusethetemperaturerange
from the mapping table, OFF, ON(RESUME), COOL, HEAT,
DRY,IfuserpressthebuttonofFAN,orotherfunctiononthe
gatewayUIwhichisnotlistedinabovetable,ZXT120willnot
respond.
IfuseronlylearntON,OFF,orpartofthesettingsaccording
to the above table, ZXT120 will send the learnt data to the
air conditioner only. For example, user only learnt ON, OFF,
22C Cool, 24C Heat, ZXT120 will not send IR data to air
conditionerifuserset27CCoolonthegateway.
ZXT120 has been predefined default cool at 26C, default
heat at 22C, when user press Cool on gateway without
settingtemperature,ZXT120willsendthelearntdataof26C
Cool to air conditioner. When user press Heat on gateway
without setting temperature, ZXT120 will send the learnt
dataof22CHeattoairconditioner.
There is only one code for dry mode, user can set it at any
preferredtemperature.
Usercanstillusegatewaytosetupsceneandschedulewith
ZXT120,forexample,tohaveACturnonat23Ceverydayat
7pm,25Cat11pm.Justmakesurethesetcodeislearnt.
The learning mapping table is for split air conditioner which
remote control is with LCD display. For window type air
conditioner (which remote control is without LCD display),
the mapping table with temperatures do not apply, due to
differenttypeofIRcontrolprotocol.However,usermaystill
usetheOFF,orON/RESUME,DRYkeyforlearning.(Because
thePOWERkeyontheoriginalremotewithoutLCDdisplayis
toggle, user can choose either ON key, or OFF key to learn
Power key, after learning is done, press once to turn on the
airconditioneriftheairconditionerisOFF,pressoncetoturn
offiftheairconditionerisON)

materialorstructure,theZXT120canfallandcauseinjuries.
Usecommercialitemsthatbestmatchthewallstructureand
materialforthescrewsandotherfixtures.
Donotmountnearakitchencounter,humidifier,orother
locationinwhichitcanbeexposedtosmokeorsteam.Doingso
couldcauseafireorelectricalshock.
Donotmountinlocationswithhighhumidityorlargeamountsof
dust.Doingsocouldcauseafireorelectricalshock.
Donotmounttolocationssubjecttohightemperatures,high
humidity,orexposuretowater.Doingsocouldcauseafireor
electricalshock.
Donotmounttolocationssubjecttolargeamountsofvibration,
largejolts,orlargeforces.ThesecouldcauseaninjuryiftheZXT
120fallsandbreaks.

intothekeyholesoftheZXT120.Otherwise,theZXT120canfall

TheZXT120canbemountedtoawallorwoodenracksusingthetwo
keyholesinthebottomcase.

direction.

1. Obtaintwoscrewssuitableforthewallstrengthandmaterial.
Thescrewsizeisshowninthefigurebelow.



2. ThepositionalrelationshipbetweentheZXT120keyholesand
thescrewmountingpositionsareshowninthefigurebelow.
Note 1: When mounting the screws to the wall, leave a space
between the wall and screw cap as shown in the figure.

3. InserttheZXT120keyholesontothetwoscrewsmountedto
thewall,andthenslidedownwardtosecureinplace.

4. AftersecuringtheZXT120tothewall,connecttheUSBPower
orbatteriesandIRemittercabletotheZXT120.

they are firmly connected to the ZXT-120.

WIRELESSINFORMATION
Wirelessrange:
Thisdevicehasanopenairlineofsighttransmissiondistanceof100
feetwhichcomplieswiththeZWavestandards.Performancecanvary
dependingontheamountofobjectsinbetweenZWavedevicessuch
aswallsandfurniture.EveryZWavedevicesetupinyournetworkwill
actasasignalrepeaterallowingdevicestotalktoeachotherandfind
alternateroutesinthecaseofareceptiondeadspot.
Radiofrequencylimitations:
1. Eachwallorobject(i.e.:refrigerator,bookshelf,largeTV,etc)can
reducethemaximumrangeof65feetbyupto25to30%.
2. Plasterboardandwoodenwallsblocklessoftheradiosignalthen
concrete,brickortilewallswhichwillhavemoreofaneffecton
signalstrength.
3. WallmountedZWavedeviceswillalsosufferalossofrangeif
theyarehousedinmetaljunctionboxeswhichcouldalsoreduce
therangebyupto25to30%.
