ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is commonly difined as an increase in systolic blood pressure


about 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure to at least 90 mmHg. In Indonesia, prevalence of
hypertension is 26.5% while in Jambi province the prevalence of hypertension is 10,05%.
Hypertension is one of cardiovascular. About 29,6% of all death in the world is caused by
cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this research is to identify the prevalence of
hypertension and estimation of cardiovascular diseases to civil servants in the secretariat of
Jambi province.

METHODS: This research is using the cross sectional approach. The research was located in
the Secretariat of Jambi Province on may 18 2015 until june 1 2015 which amount to 90 peoples
were chosen by stratified random sampling technique.

RESULT: The prevalence of hypertension in civil servant in this research is 17.8%. About
44.4% of civil servant were current smoker and 10 people had high blood pressure, 53.3% of
civil servant do not exercise regularly and 10 people had high blood pressure, and 42.% were
obesity and 6 people had high blood pressure. The civil servant who have high blood pressure
and 3 risk factor of cardiovascular disease is 12.5%, 2 risk factor of cardiovascular disease is
37.5% and 1 risk factor is 50% while civil servant who do not have high blood pressure but have
3 risk factor of cardiovascular disease is 8.1%, 2 risk factor of cardiovascular disease is 24.3%,
1 risk factor of cardiovascular disease is 54% and 13.5% do not have a risk factor.

CONCLUSION: The prevalence of hypertension in this research is 17.8%. About 44.4% of civil
servant were current smoker, 53.3% of civil servant do not exercise regularly, and 42.% were
obesity.
