0 INTRODUCTION

The definition of music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound
organized in time. But there is a special magic in music which can bring our expression out.
According to Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), Where words fail, music speaks. Even
the quote written in older days but its still meaningful until now because we are using music as
a tool of counselling where it called as Music therapy.

Music therapy is an interpersonal process in which a trained therapist uses music

and to help clients to improve or maintain their health in all of its facets as physically,
emotionally, mentally, socially, aesthetically, and spiritually. Music therapy is also considered as
type of expressive arts therapy that uses music to improve and maintain the physical,
psychological, and social well-being of individuals by involves a broad range of activities, such
as listening to music, singing, and playing a musical instrument. This type of therapy is
facilitated by a trained therapist and is often used in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools
and nursing homes. This therapy is used with individuals of all ages and with a variety of
conditions, including psychiatric disorders, medical problems, physical disabilities, abuse issues,
communication disorders, interpersonal problems, and aging. It is also used to encourage
learning, build self-esteem, reduce stress, support physical exercise, and also expressive tool.

Music therapy can benefit in different ways. The diverse nature of music means it
can be applied in the treatment of concerns both physical and psychological. In some situations,
the therapeutic use of music has been able to help people in ways where other forms of therapy
have not, as it can elicit responses that may not arise through more traditional forms of
treatment. For an example, when people find it difficult to express themselves verbally, they may
display a greater degree of interest and engagement in music therapy which help them to
express their words without voice. Moreover, by using music we can evoke positive emotions
and stimulate reward centers in the brain. It also can helps to overcome alleviate symptoms of
mental health concerns such as depression, mood-related concerns, anxiety, personality issues
and also been used in the treatment of physical ailments such as cancer and hypertension. The
positive effects of music therapy are not limited to those coping with severe or long-
lasting physical and psychological problems, and this therapy can make improvements in self-
esteem, self-concept and verbal communication too.

3.0 CONCLUSION

According to Albert Einstein (1879-1955), the only source of knowledge is

experience. The experience that I gained from the simulation therapy gives me the
knowledge about music therapy. Comments that given by my lecturer helps me to
understand how we supposed to carry out a music therapy. It changes my perception about
music where I thought it just a pleasure to listen but we also can use it for treat others. It
also will be a good technique for me to overcome my emotional problems. I hope that this
knowledge on music therapy will help me to understand my pupils emotion and feelings in
my future classroom and use the knowledge to help my pupils to overcome their problems. I
hope I can bring change among my students by using this music therapy in future.
