UsingLeChatelier'sPrinciplewithachangeofpressure

Thisonlyappliestoreactionsinvolvinggases:

Whatwouldhappenifyouchangedtheconditionsby
increasingthepressure?

AccordingtoLeChatelier,thepositionofequilibriumwillmovein
suchawayastocounteractthechange.Thatmeansthatthe
positionofequilibriumwillmovesothatthepressureisreduced
again.

Pressureiscausedbygasmoleculeshittingthesidesoftheir
container.Themoremoleculesyouhaveinthecontainer,the
higherthepressurewillbe.Thesystemcanreducethepressure
byreactinginsuchawayastoproducefewermolecules.

Inthiscase,thereare3moleculesonthelefthandsideofthe

Theequilibriumwillmoveinsuchawaythatthepressure
increasesagain.Itcandothatbyproducingmoremolecules.In
thiscase,thepositionofequilibriumwillmovetowardstheleft

Whathappensiftherearethesamenumberofmolecules

Inthiscase,increasingthepressurehasnoeffectwhatsoever
