1. Two forces are acting on a body. One acts east, the other at 35 north of east. If the two forces
are equal in magnitude of 50 N, find the resultant using the Law of Sines and the Law of
Cosines.

Ans.

2. A boat travels 10 km/hr in still water. If it is headed 60 S of W in a current that moves at 12

km/hr due east, what is the resultant velocity of the boat? Use graphical method and check your
solution using Sine Law and Cosine Law.

Ans.

3. A man walks westward in ship with a speed of 4 km/hr. The ships propeller drives it 15 km/hr
south. What is the actual speed of the man relative to the earth? What is the direction of his
velocity?

Ans.
4. Resolve a force of 20 N into two components at right angle, the line of action of one
component making an angle of 45 with the line of action of the 20 N force. Solve by
construction and by computation.

Ans.

5. Compute the direction and magnitude of the resultant of the following system of coplanar and
concurrent forces: 20 N, 40 N, 25 N, 42 N, and 12 N making an angle of 30, 120, 180, 270
and 315 respectively with the positive direction of the x-axis.
