PRONOUNS
A pronoun is used to replace a noun or another pronoun. We use
pronouns to make sentences more interesting and less repetitive.
Grammarians classify pronouns into several types, including the personal
pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they), the demonstrative pronouns
(this, that, these, those), the object pronouns (me, you, her, him, it, us, you,
them) and the possessive adjective (my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their)
etc.

(my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their).)

Grammar - Subject, Object and Possessive Adjective:

Subject Pronouns function as a subject of a sentence.

Object pronouns are used as indirect object, direct object, or object of

a preposition.

Possessive Adjective convey the idea of possession.

Example:

I (subject pronoun) love her (object pronoun) but she (subject pronoun)
loves my (possessive adjective) money.

PROFESSIONS: A, AN OR
Do you remember Angelica's profession?

'A' or 'AN' are the indefinite articles in English. They mean 'one' so they
can only be used with singular countable nouns. When we are talking about
a profession we use a or an before the profession.
(Translate) ('A' e 'AN' so os artigos indefinidos em ingls. Significam um,
ento s podem ser usados antes de um substantivo contvel no singular.
Quando falamos de profisso usamos 'a' ou 'an' antes do nome da profisso.)

Example:

SHE IS A DOCTOR
Click to listen

Play

Ouvir

HE IS AN ENGINEER
Click to listen

Play

Ouvir

NOT - They are a doctors - Because a/an means only 'one' and
doctors is a plural noun.

'A' goes before singular countable words that begin with a consonant
sound.
(Translate) (A utilizado antes de um substantivo contveil no singular que
comeam com som consonantal.)

25
'AN' goes before singular countable words that begin with a vowel
sound.
(Translate) (An utilizado antes de palavras contveis no singular e que
comeam com som de vogal.)

VALUABLE TIPS!
Note that we are talking about vowel and consonant sounds not
letters, and that letters are different from sounds.

Example - in the word honour the letter 'h' is silent (not pronounced),
so the first sound is a vowel. We say:

When the letter "u" makes the same sound as the y ( Ouvir ) in YOU (
Ouvir ), we use 'a' because this is a consonant sound (/J/ Ouvir ).
