Sacraments unit 4

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church , the sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted
by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispended to us. The seven sacraments are
ceremonies that point to what is sacred, significant and important for us as Christians and followers of Christ.
They are special occasions for experiencing God's saving presence.

Eucharist
Anointing of the sick
Holy orders
Matrimony

Gods Grandeur- Poem

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears mans smudge and shares mans smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

Analysis
"Gods Grandeur" starts off with a claim: the earth is full Gods special power, Gods vitality. But the earth is
ultimately temporary. The fire will go from it one day. It will reach a peak, then slowly spread, and then
collapse.
The speaker states that the natural world is inseparable from God, but at the same time temporary. The speaker
wants to know why dont people don't take better care of the natural world. Why dont they recognize and
respect the power of God that is running through our environment? He says that people have been endlessly
tromping and trudging through the world for so long, and now the surface of the earth is calloused and burnt
over by industry. This unique idea of this poem is extremely relevant in the lives of todays teenagers as
numerous teenagers today are neglecting the environment. Just like how Christ cleanses us humans via his
divine sacraments -Baptism, Reconciliation, Anointing of the sick and Eucharist, we must attempt to cleanse our
sorroundings and respect our natural environment that god has granted us.

Spirituality
The theme of social justice talks about us humans to identify our traits and passions. Christ tells his followers to
be self understanding. Humans can identify themselves in 5 types of ways which include -
Individualism: Isolation of the self in Western culture. Putting greater emphasis on the individual than on
the community.
Self-esteem: An awareness of ones own worth, which can only be fulfilled by others, and is difficult to
achieve in culture.
Love of self: Our love of self must equal our love for others. Loving your neighbours goes hand in hand with
loving yourself.
Agnosticism: Not knowing if God exists. The preference to remain indifferent.
Atheism: The denial of Gods existence.

Spiritual thirst

 Some people attempt to fulfill their thirst for happiness by chasing worldly desires such as going to the movies
etc. However , humans can only truly remain happy if they maintain a relationship with the almighty god. Our
human life is based on the trust of the almighty god. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is more important in life
than food, shelter and housing. It is the duty of us humans to maintain our divine relationship with the almighty
father.

Poem relating to the spiritual thirst of humans. Analysis

The road not taken - Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
The poem the road not taken is symbolic of the hard decisions that us
humans have to take in life. Evidently, numerous humans take the
trodden road and chase materialistic desires in order to gain
happiness . However, Christ encourages humans to take the less
travelled, grassy road encouraging us to gain happiness by
spirituality.

Though as for that the passing there

Unit 5- Social Justice

Jesus aspires his followers to follow the golden rule Do unto others what you would have them do unto you
(we must treat others in the way we want to be treated by them) . Social Justice does not discriminate people
based on their race, religion, sex or social status , every follower of Christ is equal in the eyes of Justice. Justice
is based on the distribution of goods in society and the equality of all its citizens. It is a virtue that gives each
person his or her due in the distribution of goods. In our present day society, humans are torturing the earth in
horrendous ways. The earth has become a victim of large scale global warming and ozone depletion.
Furthermore, numerous problems such as poverty, hunger and food shortages are rampant. Clearly, social
justice is not imparted when some humans have a better standard of living than others because of their race,
colour, social stature or religion. It is therefore our duty to foster a society that cares for the underprivileged
population and helps it retain its rights that god has granted it.

The 5 principles of social justice

Community and the common good :The human person is both sacred and social. We realize our dignity and
rights in relationship with others
Rights and responsibilities : People have a fundamental right to life, food, shelter, health care,education,
and employment.
Option for the poor : The moral test of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members. We must
strive to help the under- privileged society.

 Dignity of work : People have a right to decent and productive work, fair wages, private property, and
economic initiative.
We are one human family. : Our responsibilities to each other cross national , racial, economic, and
ideological differences.

Poem: Intellectual Pollution Analysis

The shades of gray are nearly infinite-
mirroring attitudes regarding our sin.
Degrees of separation give distinction
to human perception of ugliness within.
Living now in this Age of Information
has not made life much more palatable;
visible is Gods Truth and Satans lies,
as individuals determine whats palpable.
The overwhelming problems of pollution, global warming
and ozone depletion have become a rampant issue in the
21st century. The Joseph. J portrays our ailing society as
shades of grey. Also, the poet blames the rapid
degradation of the earthen environment to the ugliness
within the human mind. Clearly, human greed has resulted
in us defying gods charismatic creations. This poem has a
significant connection with the present day teenagers as
they seem to neglect the environment. They defy the holy
spirit by polluting nature. Hence, it is the foremost duty of
a society to cultivate a sense of love for nature in teens.
