3.3 Online & Blended Learning

Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content,
and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and
choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators.

Reflection

The evidence presented for this standard is my Multimedia Design Project from ITEC 7445. The
purpose of this project was to implement the National Educational Technology Standards for
Students and state content standards to provide a technology-based lesson for students. The
artifact is a WebQuest that I created for first grade students on designing a plant package that will
allow a plant to still get its four needs met. They worked through the engineering design process
to design the package. This WebQuest includes many multimedia tools learned in ITEC 7445
such as audio editing, video editing, and building a website.

Standard 3.3, Online and Blended Learning established the expectations for being able to
develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and
learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices
for professional learning for teachers and administrators. This artifact showcases my ability to
incorporate digital tools into a WebQuest to encourage student motivation and engagement. I
developed the WebQuest by using a variety of digital tools. The tools used were audio and video
editing, and using code to embed my videos into my WebQuest. Using science content and
technology literacy standards, I integrated academic content into the WebQuest to facilitate,
support, and extend student learning with digital content. I modeled the effective use on digital
content by supporting my students as they navigated through an online WebQuest.

By completing this assignment, I learned how to use online blended learning to support and
extend student learning opportunities. I learned hand coding, audio and video editing, and
publishing skills that will benefit me as a technology facilitator. In the future, I would like to
instruct students more in-depth before allowing them to explore the WebQuest on their own.
This project was created with first grade students in mind, and they have little experience with
working on a WebQuest.

The work of this artifact impacted school improvement and student learning. Students were able
to interact and collaborate with peers to complete the WebQuest and produce an authentic
product in the end. It allowed students the opportunity to explore and make sound decision
based on their research. To assess the learning, a rubric was provided to assess mastery. There
was also a survey for both teachers and students to address the effectiveness of the WebQuest.
