The essay definitely displays narration. It answers the question what happened. Amy told us the story of
how she, as a Chinese mother, raised her two successful Chinese daughters. An example of how she did
this would be the part where she told us about her struggle with Lulu in making her play the piece The
Little White Donkey.

Amy also used definition in the beginning of the essay. She defined what she meant by Chinese parents
and Western parents, and how she used these two terms loosely.

Another rhetorical pattern used in the beginning of the essay is exemplification.
