Just a tip:

When they say define similarly as something shown, try to write the answer as similarly shown.

To solve something like x+2-3x=0 make an unknown e.g. k=x and k2=x

When you draw sin or cos graph make sure it is curvy not V or U shaped.

Basic Shape:

Y=(x)

Y=x2
Integrating:

Integrate x^n 1/(n+1) x x^(n+1)

g(ax+b)dx=1/a x f(ax+b) + constant where f(x) is the simplest integral of g(x)

Completing the square information:

Y=(x+b)2+c

+= minimum point

-= maximum point

Value in the box= x value of stationary point

C= y value of stationary point

If they ask for in the form (Ax + B)2 + C, expand it and compare coefficients.

They can also use vertex of curve to mean stationary point.

Functions:

a) y-axis: range of f (e.g. f(x)>2) / domain of f-1 (e.g. x>3)

x-axis: domain of f (e.g. x>2) / range of f-1 (e.g. f-1(x)>2)

Finding g-1(x) in terms of x.

The function g is defined by g : x 8x x2 , for x 4.

Let y= g(x)= 8x x2

Then solve like it quadratically. THEN, you will get something like thisx = 8(64 4y)2

Now, in the question it mentions that x>4so we cannot take x=8-. Option so we end up with

g-1x) = 4 + (16 x)

regarding inverse, if you have a line y=x and a f(x) you can get the reflected line. This reflected line
would be the inverse if f(x) has an inverse only if f(x) is a one-one function

b)use completing the square to find inverse

Trigonometry:

a) tan2x= sin2x/cos2x
b) Cos2x=3/4

Cos x=(3/4)

c) 4(cos x)x=4x cos x not 4cos x2 or 4 cos2x

Y=a sin x +b

A=how many times taller than original peak

X=if its /2, it makes only half the journey of original

B= how much higher from the y values of original (dont use this on peak since a cannot affect it
too)

dont forget the negative sign and since

the angle is reflex and in fourth quadrant when you multiply with 2, you get 540-720
Differentiation:

At tangent, m=0!!! ( I am not convinced)

f(x) is positive then f(x) is increasing as x increases

f(x) is negative then f(x) is decreasing as x increases

f(x) is zero, f(x) has stationary value (gradient = 0)

e.g.f(x= 3x2+2x2 is positive for all values for xf(x) >0 so it is an increasing function

stationary value refers to y value at the stationary point

d2y/dx2 negative- maximum value

d2y/dx2 positive- minimum value

if you forgetthis means rate of change of dy/dx. So if its negative that means, the gradient is from
+ve to 0 to ve. That means it is rising then zero then droppingmaximum value.

OR

To avoid getting tricked by point of inflexion where the gradient goes from positive to zero to
positive(not a stationary point), sub values of x before and after the stationary point, see if the
gradient change signs. If gradient changes from negative to zero then to positive, you have a
minimum point)

Vector:

Vectors with same magnitude and same direction are equal.

Vectors are parallel if v1=v2

A unit vector is a vector whose magnitude is one unit.

Unit vector- that vector/its magnitude

Given a is 5 units and is in direction 2i-j+4k, find a.

Find unit vector of 2i-j+4k and multiply with 5.

BA is parallel to CD, so they are in the same direction but different magnitudes (parallel). Find out
the unit vector of BA and multiply with the length of CD that will give you the answer to vector CD.

For the angle of AOB, it means the angle at O. angle in between the vectors OA and OB.

For perpendicular vectors: a.b=0

If angle at O is perpendicular; e.g. OA.OB=0

A O

The modulus (magnitude) of a vector is (a2+b2+c2)

Properties of quadrilaterals:..

b2-4ac is used to determine nature of roots of equation.

Tangent to a curve meaning the line only touches the curve at one point. Combine both equations of
curve and line to 0. Since b2-4ac=0.

My thoughtsif y=. You are finding roots relative to the x-axis. If it touches the x-axis or not. If it
does, does it touch the x-axis twice or not. But if you have two separate equations and you find the
discriminant, you want to know if the two equations(graphs) are touching each other or not. But if
they say tangent, then you know for sure b2-4ac=0 (still combine both equations)

Hope you get it ;)

Something new:

Progression

r0
For part (ii), you must reflect with y=x.

(iii) set of values confuses me

Unsure(x+2)/3=-1 x=-5 and (x+2)/3=1 x=1
