ACO ACCESS
ACO's Technical Services can also offer additional advice and assistance in choosing the
right access cover.
1 Load Class Choose the right cover and frame to withstand the anticipated type and
frequency of traffic. ACO's covers are certified to AS 3996 loadings. See details
on page 7 for full information.
Certain covers are bolted as standard, others can have bolts added as an option.

In fast moving traffic, covers should be positioned with the drawcut facing the
traffic flow to prevent the cover from accidentally lifting.
Covers should be positioned to avoid obstacles that may prevent easy cover removal.

Pit Dividers
On occasions electrical pits have to be
divided into different sections. This can
be achieved by putting a dividing wall into
the pit. ACO manufactures a bracket (part
no. 76514) which can be attached to
either plastic or Polymer Concrete pits by
Waterproofing of Pits
means of nuts and bolts. A divider should
be cut from 15mm thick wood, plastic or Electrical pits in standard form are not

cover and lifting holes with a sealant.
Any lifting or movement of the cover will
compromise this seal.
If a pit requires a waterproof cover an ACO
ACCESS cover should be used above the
pit. The ACO ACCESS cover can withstand
IP65 protection (water and dust ingress)
as outlined in AS1939.

Materials
There are a variety of materials available ACO can supply:
for trench drain systems. Each material
behaves differently in various Material samples for on site testing
environments and situations. Following
extensive testing, AGO can provide advice
on chemical and corrosion resistance for
most common trench drain materials.

general, stainless steel pipes are less
susceptible to internal scaling when
compared to most traditional pipe

Hydraulics
The volume of liquid a trough system
needs to collect and remove in a given
time period determines its size. Slab
restrictions may limit the depth of the
trough system leaving its width as the
usual variable for correct sizing.
Typical factors that affect the size of a
trough system:
number of, and discharge rate
(generally measured in litres per
second) of wash down hoses in a
room
volume of spill containment
hydraulic capacity of waste pipe
beneath the floor connecting to the
trough system (for liquid evacuation)
quantity, size(s) and location (along its
length) of trough outlet(s)
desired trough invert fall along the
length of the system
speed of liquid across the floor during
service and/or wash down operations.
In this instance the selection of the
grate must also be considered
for external areas: rainfall intensity,
size of catchment, ground falls etc
ACO offers different sized trough systems
and a broad selection of grates to meet
most hydraulic requirements and offers
technical support to customers to help
ensure correct system specification. See
