Ideas for Improving Medical Chinese

- Create a survey to assess language proficiency in students interested in Medical

Chinese and to see what students want to learn and get out of Medical Chinese
sessions
- Eg. learn more vocabulary, practice basic conversation, practice health-related
conversation, practice patient interview in SP format, learn how to do HPI and
construct differential diagnoses for different complaints, etc.

- One good idea from Dr. Lin: focus session on dealing with one or two
chief complaints WE WILL TRY THIS FOR THE NEXT SESSION
- Dr. Lin can act as SP, and well practice the HPI, physical exam for each
particular chief complaint
- Students can take turns or work together to determine appropriate questions to
ask for each chief complaint, and practice asking these questions in Chinese
- Dr. Lin can provide his opinion on how to phrase these questions and help with
teaching applicable clinical skills for these complaints
- In terms of providing a physical learning resource, Teresa and I could help with
transcribing important sentences or phrases learned for each complaint

- Medical Chinese could be a mix of these types of sessions and

vocabulary building in terms of learning vocabulary, try to
incorporate vocabulary review from previous sessions

- Another idea is to look up English skits/dialogues about a physician-patient encounter

and practice translating the dialogue
