To Hiring Manager
Monday, 12 June 2017

Dear Sir/Madam,
I wish to apply for the advertised position of Thermal and Fluid science engineer. Please find
enclosed my CV for your consideration.
Cummins.Inc is a specialist in the field of diesel engines and power generation that carries out
large design and development projects, which support OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in delivering
competitive products to market. It operates in multiple sectors, such as automotive,
motorsport, aerospace, marine, etc. I want to work in an environment where my skills will be
put to the test, challenging me professionally and where I will always learn something new. I
believe Cummins.Inc , as a company, can satisfy me professionally. Hence, Im applying for
this position.
I have completed an undergraduate degree programme in Mechanical Engineering at MDIS,
Singapore; which was affiliated to University of Bradford, UK. I obtained a 2:1 Bachelors with
honours in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently studying MSc in Thermal Power (Aerospace
Propulsion Option) at Cranfield University, UK which will last until October 2017. I believe the
knowledge and skills built up during this time make me a suitable candidate for the role. The
position particularly interests me because of my passion for aerospace propulsion and
automobiles. During my courses, I studied topics such as Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics,
Engineering Dynamics, Vehicle Engineering, Advanced Engineering Design, Materials
Engineering and Design, Mechanical Design of Turbomachinery, Computational Fluid
Dynamics, Structural and Solid Mechanics, Vehicle Engineering, Reliability Engineering,
Material Failure Analysis, Design of Machine Elements. The skills learned from these modules
have given me an excellent foundation for building my career.
I have built upon my interest in this field in several ways. During my undergraduate degree, I
have completed my dissertation about the analysis of the increase in performance by
gearing a Turbofan Type Jet Engine, where I used 2D CFD computation to quantify the
results. Currently, for my post-graduate thesis, Im working on the investigation of an
application for the MAGLEV system in Distributed Electric Propulsion to power an aircraft,
using tools of MATLAB and CAD softwares. This project has given me knowledge about
design and integration of electrical and mechanical components.
Aside from this, I was Director of Infrastructures in Cranfield Thermal Power course event of
Symposium, which was held on 6th and 7th April 2017. Im also part of rocket propulsion
group in CranSEDS, a society in Cranfield University which has participated in all the
competitions hosted by UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS).

Previously, I have worked in Instrumentation sector of the industry as a Design Engineer, and
my previous job has given me experience in development operations, troubleshooting and
organisational operations in industries. I am also certified in internal auditing for ISO
9001:2015 management system.

After my high school, I completed a year in Lille, France as a part of Rotary Student Exchange
Programme in the year 2007-2008. This experience helped me to adapt to unfamiliar
surroundings and gain working fluency in French. I also fluently speak English, Hindi and
Marathi.

I am confident that I can bring this level of expertise with me to your organisation and help
Cummins. Inc build upon their reputation as one of the leading specialists in designing and
developing engines for automotive, motorsport, marine, etc. projects. Add to this my passion
and enthusiasm for thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, automotive engineering, component
designing and problem-solving, I believe my contribution will have an immediate impact on
the business.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss my
application further.

Yours Faithfully,
Ameya Jalali
