On_1/25/66, lof the Cleveland PD, Special Investigations Unit, advise at the "Cleveland Press" reporter that had infiltrated the KKK in Cleveland had advised him that since he had received his robe at the Klan meeting on 1/23/66, he felt his goal to infiltrate the Klan had been achieved and that he and his paper were now ready to go ahead with plans to publish the story. He stated that sometime during the Summer of 1965, the exact date he did not recail, he saw a considerable amount of news media information concerning a purposed National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan rally in Oregonia, Ohio. He stated that he decided more out of curiousity than anything else to attend this rally and he did so, the date unrecalled. He recalled that there were numerous people at this rally, that he did not know any of them, however, he did meet on on whose property the meeting took place. These two individuals appeared to be in an excited state and inquired of the owner of this tavern if he could furnish them with a gun to get someone. The tavern owner stated he could furnish them with no weapons and shortly thereafter both these individuals departed the tavern. He stated that he realized that he was suffering from mental depressions and shortcomings, and he displayed razor-slash scars on both wrists, which he sAid were the result of suicide attempts while serving in the U. S. Air Force from October 19, 1961, to August 10, 1964," Mitchell stated that he is presently receiving $240 per month compensation from the United States Government, which represents 100% disability following his honorable discharge from the U. S, Air Force for psychiatric reasons. Mitchell admitted that he has been a subscriber to "The Thunderbolt," and that he had directed letters to that publication in the past, setting forth his opinions regarding racial matters and problems. "The Thunderbolt" 1s described in the characterization of the National States Rights Party in the Appendix hereto. Mitchell volunteered that he became "disillusioned" over alleged "white supremecy" while serving with the U. S. Air Force in Germany and had since become interested in the Ku Klux Klan and other "hate organizations"; however, he stated that he has since realized the fallacies of the policies of these organizations and is going to disassociate himself immediately from them altogether. Mrs. Mitchell stated that she had never agreed with her husband's former beliefs in this regard and felt that he was on the verge of another mental breakdown. Mr. and Mrs, Mitchell stated thst they planned to depart from New Castle, where both were reared, during February, 1966, for Youngstown, Ohio, where they will reside and seek employment. Mitchell stated that he planned to discontinue any contact with "hate organizations” in the future.
