They learned there had been an altercation at the "66" Truck Stop, Orchard Hill, Georgia, on the night of February 11, 1967, between five Negro brothers and some white men. The Negroes left the truck stop to return home and John Grant and two other white men had gone to the vicinity of the Negroes’ homes. Grant and the other | two white men were confronted by the five Negro brothers and>© in the ensuing melee Grant was shot and killed. The Klansmeb7C learned the five Negro brothers had been arrested and charged with murder. made the statement that since the Negroes were in custody they, the Klansmen, should wait until they saw what the law would do to the Negroes and if law did not do anything then they, the Klan, would. said he had been out of action so long he would enjoy getting into a little action. Cooperation continues to be lacking among members of the NKKKK and it is extremely difficult to get anybody to assist in any projects or plans which are discussed. Klan leadership and cooperation is still extremely lacking between the South and Ohio. Prospects now do not look bright for the future. On| advised as follows: On Saturday, January 28, 1967, a conference was held at Lodi, Ohio, consisting of NKKKK board members. A general discussion of policy took place and'the location site -3- CI 157-245 was residence. The general theme of the discussion followed that the Qhio Klan members would have to worry and protect themselves rather than be dependent on the Southern Klan leadérs. C., about two years ago, writing a book concerning the Klan in Ohio. nas a reputation among Klansmen generally as being @ “double-crosser" who became affiliated with the Klan for personal financial gain. This is probably the reason he is now planning to write a book about the Klan. A ghost writer will do the actual writing of the book but his identity is currently unknown. The publisher is also unknown at this time. The Executive Board of the NKKKK in Ohio should hold a forthcoming meeting in the near future and issue certain directives. Some of the Southern Klan leaders will be in for a surprise when they learn that the Ohio Klan operation will be acting on its own after this Executive Board meeting, if it takes place. The Ohio group is loosely operated and receives almost no cooperation from the national organization in Georgia. so ontinues to complain about having no available funds to continue organizing the Klan and his activities have been reduced a great deal in recent months. He talks about holding a Klan rally in the soring or summer however no plans have been made to this effect, as yet. He stated that he wanted everyone to write the Cobb Co.
