SB1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to analyze the nature of the relationships between structures and functions in living cells. e. Ask questions to investigate and provide explanations about the roles of photosynthesis and respiration in the cycling of matter and flow of energy within the cell (e.g., single-celled alga).
Technology Standard Addressed: Creative Communicator: Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals. Selected Technology Tool: SimpleMind , Khan Academy

We will initially have an open discussion about common student misconceptions about the word respiration. Humans have a respiration system, and cells undergo cellular respiration-Do cells breath like humans?. Students will complete a Think-Pair-Share reading a chapter on cellular respiration with a partner and sharing 2 things that were interesting or new, and 2 things that are confusing or they have questions on. Students will work in those same pairs to create posters that illustrate the process of cellular respiration from their point of view and using key vocabulary. Materials provided- candy, rice, markers, construction paper, yarn etc. We will post these around the class. Students must illustrate at least three consecutive steps of cellular respiration.
Students will watch a Khan Academy video individually at home (https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/cellular-respiration-and-fermentation/intro-to-cellular- respiration/v/introduction-to-cellular-respiration) on cellular respiration and complete the concept map provided as a guided notes.
