AWITING KAY GLEENG!

CHORAL COMPETITION (Season 7)

1. The Awiting kay Gleeng is an amateur choir competition open to non professional vocal groups /
glee clubs from different schools, companies, churches / religious groups, and/or communities of
South Luzon and Metro Manila. There will be 2 categories for the competition:

a. September 16 School based choral groups (High School, Colleges and Universities)

b. September 17 Non-School based choral groups (Companies, Churches and


religious groups

Theme: ORIGINAL PILIPINO MUSIC (OPM) - Music from the 1970s

2. Registration will be open until 9:00PM on August 31, 2017 only. Application forms are available at
Festival Malls Concierge at the 2nd Level, and may also be downloaded from the Festival Mall
Facebook Page. Completed forms may be submitted at the Festival Mall 2 nd level Customer Service,
through email at richard.macatangay@filinvestlifemalls.com or nicanor.david@filinvestlifemalls.com.

3. Requirements for registration are as follows:

a. The competition is open to all non-professional vocal groups.

b. Each group should be composed of a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 20 members.

c. A letter of endorsement addressed to Festival Supermall Marketing Department from the


School Head, Principal or Dean (for schools), Barangay Captain (for community), Company Manager
(for companies) and Parochial Leaders (for churches) indicating the names, ages, and levels (for
schools) of the participants must be submitted upon registration together with the official entry form.
The letter of endorsement and entry form must bear their seal.

4. Competition will start at 2:00PM at the 2nd Level Carousel Court, Festival Mall in the presence of
DTI representative on the following dates:

a. September 16 School based choral groups (High School, Colleges and Universities)

b. September 17 Non-School based choral groups (Companies, Churches and


religious groups
5. Judging will be based on the following criteria:

CHORAL ELEMENTS - basic demonstrative qualities such as, but not limited to: 40%
Tonality, Diction, Dynamics, Intensity, Phrasing and Breathing, etc.
CHORAL MUSICIANSHIP - artistic sensitivity in performing the chosen piece/s. 30%
CHORAL PROGRAMMING - appropriateness of the piece/s to the theme, 15%
the choir and the audience.
CHORAL PRESENCE overall impact and presentation onstage. 15%

TOTAL 100%

6. The judges' decision is final.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

Two songs (Tagalog or English), both Original Pilipino Music (OPM), both composed from 1970-1979.

GUIDELINES:

Competition is open to school choirs (High School and College) and company, church and
community choirs.

A group should consist of 8 to 20 members, equal or mixed voices. Complete names of


members and conductor who will perform for the finals should be submitted.

A conductor and a singer can only perform exclusively for one (1) group BUT may participate in
both categories.

One of the songs performed should be in a cappella (refer to REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS no.
1). For the other song, accompaniment can be live or in CD (no background vocals should be
used). Non-observance of this rule will result in a 10 point deduction to the final score.

Repertoire should only last for 10 minutes from the first note (vocal or accompaniment).
Excess in time will result to a 0.5 point deduction to the final score.

Groups should submit three (3) clear copies of the sheet music for the judges.

In case of copyrighted compositions/arrangements, groups should submit an authorization


letter from the composer/arranger. It is the responsibility of the choir to obtain an
authorization letter from the composer/arranger. Copyright issues brought up before, during
and after the competition must be resolved by the parties involved. Festival Mall will not be
held responsible if a composition has been performed without permission.
Selection of 10 groups per category who will perform for the finals will be based on first-come-
first served basis.

Groups are allowed to do sound check between 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM only.

Competition will promptly start at 2:00 PM. Any group who arrives late will be disqualified.

a. September 16 School based choral groups (High School, Colleges and Universities)

b. September 17 Non-School based choral groups (Companies, Churches and


religious groups

Groups must submit a 2-minute demo video.

Incomplete application forms and requirements by the time of submission will be disqualified.

Festival Mall has the right to refuse application of groups deemed have cheated or exhibited
unprofessional conduct in previous competitions.

PRIZES:

GRAND CHAMPION - PHP 30, 000 & TROPHY plus P5,000 for the
endorsing school & non-school group

1ST PLACE WINNER - PHP 20, 000 & TROPHY

2ND PLACE WINNER - PHP 10, 000 & TROPHY

CONSOLATION PRIZES - PHP 5, 000
