Thrill jet boat rides now available in Tanjung Aru

KOTA KINABALU: South East Asias first thrill rides using jet boats is now available at Tanjung Aru near
here.

The 15 minute jet boat rides take passengers to waters near the Tengku Abdul Rahman marine park
islands.

The jet boat rides operated by Smart Hero (Malaysia) Bhd are similar to what is offered at various rivers
and lakes in New Zealand and other countries.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun who launched the jet boat rides
said it would further diversify Sabahs tourism products.

We are well known as a nature-oriented destination but the jet boats are also for those in search of
thrills, he said.

He said the state had allowed the jet boat ride service after ensuring that Smart Hero adhered to all safety
measures including seeking approval from Sabah Parks as to where it operate the rides.

After experiencing the 15-minute jet boat ride, Masidi said the jet boat rides provided a unique experience
and were not dangerous as perceived.

No doubt it was fast, bumpy and it does a 360 degree spin but its all within the safety limits, he said
adding that he would however not recommend the rides for the faint hearted.

Smart Hero managing director Michael Chen said they were operating rides using two jet boats for now
and this could increase depending on demand.

The jet boats can accommodate up to 12 passengers and the 15 minute ride costs RM150.
