In Indonesia, asbestos has been used in a massive scale, especially in roofing (houses, schools,

factories, and even hospital). Public awareness of asbestos hazard effects has been increase since
there are a lot of asbestos hazard public campaign which is begin since 2010 by The Indonesia Ban
Asbestos Network, the network that endeavors to prohibit asbestos use in Indonesia. Although its
not easy to limit its use, this network courageously speak up their mission at home and also abroad.

In Indonesia itself, the campaign held by educating citizen through a poster, brochures , literature
review, and doing such an exhibition on the street. From that point, the network representatives
could assess a great enthusiastic citizens response in facing those issues. Public and consumers are
told about what is absestos and how to identify material containing asbestos, what is its dangerous
health effect, how to handle asbestos contaminated-material and how to protect them from
asbestos exposure.

Currently, Indonesia is still moving toward to fight the dangers of asbestos. Though there is no
official registry that ban its use, now, Ina Ban network has been hardly pushed the government to
make a contra-asbestos policies, especially in cutting up the importing material comes from other
country. Nevertheless, the popularity of asbestos-material is increased due to several political thing
that prioritize their benefit other than public health and environment.

The case of asbestos related lung disease has not been shown up recently in Indonesia. It is because
its long term side effect that has not been seen currently and also because Indonesia is still
prioritizing to fight several infectious lung disease other than asbestosis.
