ABSTRACT:
The Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammation that affects the sebaceous unit, usually
the face, thorax and back. Among others treatments available, the salicylic acid can
be used in aesthetic, it is a beta hydroxy acid that has keratoplastic action at
concentrations up to 3%, and keratolytic above 3%, and bacteriostatic and fungicidal
at concentrations of 1 to 5%. As a main positive point, it presents low incidence of
complications due to their low skin irritability. Due to these factors, Pelling of salicylic
acid is effective in treating acne grades I and II. At low concentrations, salicylic acid
is one of the best treatments for sensitive skin and lipid biotype. This work consists of
a literature review to identify the effectiveness of the action of salicylic acid in acne
vulgaris.
