INTRODUCTION
Transport is the movement of goods ,people and animals from one place to
another.

management is a set of activities directed at the efficient and effective utilization

of resources in the pursuit of one or more goals.

A system is an organized, purposefull structure that consist of interrelated and

interdependent elements which continually influence one another directly or
indirectly to maintain their activity and existence of the system in order to
achieve the goal of the system

TMS is therefore the system that involve automation of the transport sectors
eradicating the manual system thus engaging the user with the system.

This project is aimed to automate the transport sectors and the related areas. In
this modern times transport has encountered numerous problems for instance
long queue to obtain the tickets, over charging and exaggeration of fees because
there isnt a standard fee for particular routes, high hiring fee than
recommended and others. This system is aimed to create a simple online ticket
booking anywhere and anytime.

The travelling companies mostly conduct most of their core activities such as
registration of member of staff, registration of vehicles and trips per vehicles each
day in the records books this makes it very tiresome to recording day by day.

Same registration or record can be done twice by mistake and it will be very hard
to track the mistake. Making content updates becomes very hard because all the
records are on the books thus to update all the record books must be reviewed.

Thus this project will be of great importance to the transport sectors and the area
related as the book recording will be replaced by well designed online platform
that will monitor all the activities of the company

11
TMS
There will be a login platform where the user is expected to register by giving
their details that uniquely identify them .In the portal the user will make their
booking, they can also view the vehicle that is leaving and at what

12
TMS
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of this project are:

TMS helps companies move freight from origin to destination efficiently,

reliably, and cost effectively. TMS encompasses solutions for moving freight
in all modes and also includes intermodal movements. The TMS processes
include freight transported inbound or outbound, domestically or
internationally; using transportation assets owned either by the company
or an outside service provider. The freight managed by a TMS ranges in size
from parcels to bulk commodities.

Having a common platform that guidance all the activities of a certain

sector of movement and transportation of individuals and also logistics and
moving of luggage.

Create a login platform. Here the user will have access to enter his or her
details that uniquely identify the client.

Create and modify a common database that will store all the records and
day to day activities of the buses matatus and the commercial vehicle. It
will also store all the employees records and work disciplinary .Also the
online activities of a user

Other objectives include:

In the login platform a user will have to create an account which will
identify the client. With the account the user will be able to book a
travelling ticket and book a vehicle for hiring.

Because of unavoidable circumstances of a system breakdown. I will create

a back up that at any point the system break the information will instantly
be restored after system synchronization.

13
TMS
Due to high level of traffic the system will reduce traffic congestion by
almost 50% because the client travels and depart at a particular time from
their location.

To facilitate easy recording and retrieval of any record made despite the
day and time it was made even if its an year ago or two

To automate the transport sector to be fully online and easy for each and
every individuals.

To track the profit or loss of each and every vehicle as the information will
be recorded separately.

14
TMS
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Currently in the transport sectors people face a lot of problems mostly in the
festive seasons as there is increased travelling from one place to another. Long
queue so as to obtain the travelling ticket from the agents assigned to sell the
tickets.

Due to the increased travelling of individual manual recording and processing

have increased congestion and jamming of the system which is more manual as it
cannot work form a long time without constants refreshing.

This project is aimed to cover up this problem as the will be introduction of online
ticket booking which will be easy and the most efficient for instance the payment
methods will be via the online payment like m-pesa, PayPal and many others that
will be implemented in time .

The process of recording all the companies activities in the book will be
completely removed and replaced by the full digitalized platform as this was a
very tiresome process and may also lead to very high loss if a record is doubled by
mistake.

Via the internet all this processes will be made very very easy as the client login
with their details anywhere and anytime ,makes their booking and obtain their
ticket after the payment. In their login portal they are to download the ticket and
present it during the travelling day.

15
TMS
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
This project will aid in the advancement of the technology as the platform is
online orientated this will make a step further in the technological sector.

This project will also create one common module that will act as the headquarter
for a certain route thus reduce this will reduce congestion in the area of boarding
as all tickets are bought online thus clients come at a specific time hence reducing
traffic.

This system will be a great benefit to the user as the bus fee is fixed and if the
rates are to change the clients are notified earlier thus they are prepared before
that time. This is made easy as in the modern times rates are exaggerated the
conductors and you will do nothing as there isnt any standard rates thus this
project will have a great impact of benefits to the use

This system will aid the managers in tracking the actual earning of each and every
vehicle thus preventing internal theft.

This project will be a source of employment to the people who are I.T oriented
because there will be constant update from the company to their clients and
tracking the movement of their vehicle till arrival to notify the clients from other
places on the next stopover

16
TMS
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The main scope of this project is to develop a website for bus and hiring
ticket reservation and reservation management system

The main users of this project are the company director, the bus
counter ,staffs and customers

The bus counter staffs acts as the admin where they can add, edit and
delete the bus information and schedule and generate bus ticket sales
report daily, monthly, and yearly to assist their daily work through the
web-based management system.

The customer will be able to use the website to perform their reserving
ticket transaction anywhere and at any time.

LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter gives a summary of the literature that have been researched by
other people. It involves the strength and the limitation of the website ,the work
related and the conclusion following the proposed web.

INTRODUCTION.
In the arena of global competition, organizations all over the world are competing
through the use of the most comprehensive and advanced technological
features. The most common example of innovation is in the area of information
technology and communication.

Various industries are using technology and the advancements of the website
and internet to maintain and monitor their activities. In the application of the
informative systems, the transport industry is a commonly used system. This
chapter explores the concept of reservation information system, their history,
components, types and their applications in real world situation to solve

problems.

This chapter consist of two parts ;decription review of an existing system and the
second part decribes the review on technique ,methods, equipment and
technology preview used in the same domain.

CURRENT EXISTING SYSTEM

This part is to review the current system and the exixsting system that relate to
tTransport management system (TMS)

School asset management

School Asset Manager is an innovative cloud based asset management
solution. It enables schools to manage all their fixed and mobile assets including
PCs and laptops to software, sports equipment, musical instruments and etc. This
School Asset Manager provides financial management standard in school. Due to

18
TMS
pressure from governors schools must demonstrate accurate tracking and
management of school assets to comply with regular audit. Besides that, it
provides
equipment auditing. New equipment is often documented manually in a single
location.

Transport Management
Transport Management improves operations from procurement to freight
settlement. It helps streamline transportation operations and reduce cost. It also
provides greater visibility and control over the entire process

There are five overviews in the Transport Management such as procurement,

planning, execution, global trade management and freight settlement. The
procurement gaining the greatest value from transportation spends starts long
before load to route or a shipment to tender. Planning is very important thing to
create the optimal plan to maximize saving and services. The execution
capabilities have to be not only comprehensive but also highly agile. In global
trade management, it needs to keep up with the latest regulations, paperwork
and compliance issues. It reduces cost, risks and delays. Freight settlement
where user does not has to pay twice for freight

Golden Inventory System is a system used to manage the inventory of the

organization. There is a system flow in the system how it works. It has some
functions such as purchase orders, receiving, vendor payments, seller orders,
customer payments and etc.

Based on the advantages and disadvantages of the existing system, there are
some features that will be the main focus in my Transport Management System.
Combination of the main focused of each systems make the module of my system
complete each other such as the management of the asset, transportation and
the
inventory of the company. From this combination, it helps the function of the
system has connection between them and easy to manage the module.

Web Application
A web application is an application that is accessed over a network such as
the internet or an intranet. It is an application that is invoked with a web browser
over the internet. Web application supports user participation to add value to the
22
TMS
application and collaborate with other users. The application can be as simple as a
message board or a guest sign-in book on a website or as complex as a word
processor or a spreadsheet. Web application development requires agility, the
use of standard components, inter-operability and close attention to user needs.
The important feature of popular web applications is to support user participation
to add value to the application and collaborate with other users [7].
Knowledge Management
Knowledge management is being applied in multinational, multicultural
organizations and we are seeing issues in effectively implementing knowledge
management and transferring knowledge in global and multicultural
environments

Procurement Management System

Procurement is the acquisition of goods and services. It is favorable that the
goods and services are appropriate and that they are procured at the best
possible cost to meet the needs of the purchaser in terms of quality and quantity,
time and location. The process of obtaining goods and services from
preparation and processing of a requisition through to receipt and approval of the
invoice for payment. It commonly involves purchase planning, standards
determination, specifications development, supplier research and selection, value
analysis, financing, price negotiation, making the purchase, supply contract
administration, inventory control and stores, and disposals and other
related functions.
Asset Management System / Inventory Management System
Asset management system refers to the professional management
of investment funds for individuals, families and institutions. Investments include
stocks, bonds, convertibles, alternative assets (such as hedge funds, private equity
funds and real estate), commodities, indexes of each of these asset classes
and money market investments. Inventory management system is about
specifying the size and placement of stocked goods. It is required at different
locations within a facility or multiple locations of a supply network to protect the
regular and planned course of production against the random disturbance of
running out of materials or goods.
Content Management System Software
Content Management System Software is a system providing a collection of
procedures used to manage work flow in a collaborative environment. These
23
TMS
procedures can be manual or computer-based. Data can be defined as nearly
anything such as documents, movies, pictures, phone numbers, scientific data and
so forth. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, revising, semantically
enriching and publishing documentation.

Database
Merrill Wells, (2002) [14] defines Database as a collection of non-redundant data,
which can be shared by different application systems. Or database is a collection
of data as well as program s required to manage that data. According to Merrill
Wells the importance of data has been obvious from time immemorial. Before the
advent of computers, this was written in books or registers; these could be
considered as manual databases. Ever since computers were introduced as a
means of sorting data, the concept and structure of a database have undergone a
sea change. Database creation and maintenance is a gradual and continuous
procedure being influenced by system software such as database management
systems.Database users state their requirements to the database using the data
definition languages (DDL) and the data manipulation languages (DML) via the
database management systems. The database management system surely
provides an interface between the users programs and contents of the data base.
During the creation and subsequent maintenance of the data base contents, the
DDL and the DML are used for the following, add new files, expand the database,
delete the absolute
records, adjust data, and expand the database capacity, link up the data items
and many others

Platform
The operating system and web browser are the main platform to make sure that
system will be developed is compatible to the end user. It increases the
characteristics of user friendly such as related to the graphic user interface.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion many web designers have done publication about the transport
management system as a more convenient way and an urgent requirement and a

24
TMS
lot of research being carried out though all their proposal have never been
implemented.

However in this project there are numerous benefits from the transport
management system. This include the view of the list of vehicle available for any
case of transport at any time of the day or night and its very easy. In order to
have the pane of customer attraction the transport sectors need to put in place
an online transport site.

The proposed websites

There is high demand in the movement of goods from one place to another also
people move from one place to another conducting their daily activities. This
website will help to avoid more expenses and to remain more informed on the
schedule of this transport areas.
