Authors: Van Den Stock, Isabelle Peretz, Julie Brezes, Beatrice de Gelder
Journal: Brain Topography
Date: May 2009

Emotions are perceived by multiple sensory systems. The research on this multiple sensory
system has been going on for a long time. It has focused on audiovisual speech, but the
research on multisensory emotion is scarce. The research concluded that the recognition of
emotion can be influenced by the emotion expressed in the task that is irrelevant to modality.
The study then was expanded to whole body expression. This showed that affective crossmodal
effects occur when the body language is present with animal vocalizations.
