Having a degree in computer science can provide nearly endless reliable and exciting job

opportunities. Technology keeps advancing and the demand for skilled labor who know how to

work in this field keeps going up and up. Computer science is an exciting field with a broad job

market filled with careers that provide great benefits and satisfaction knowing you are making

the world a better place.

One of the great benefits of choosing to get this degree is the career paths. There are

many avenues to take whether it is being a software developer or engineer to working in

information technology, managing databases, or working in system security. With so many

different opportunities to pursue it may be hard to figure out which path is best. Let us take a

dive deeper into some of these careers in the computer science field to see the roles and what the

job entails.

Software developers are responsible for creating computer programs. In this career, it is

determine where they can specialize. Another key skill that is needed in this career is being

familiar with data structures and algorithms. As a developer with these skills there are many jobs

open either working for a large business, government agency or even working on video games or

mobile applications.

Cyber Security is another very exciting and rewarding career path. With this pathway,

there are also a lot of different opportunities to work for small startups all the way to big

businesses or government agencies. Some of the responsibilities in this field include making sure

the companies systems are safe and secure from someone attempting to breach and gain sensitive

information to the company or business. In this field, it is very important to be able to detect

potential vulnerabilities in the system and planning the appropriate defenses to stop an attack.

Being able to keep our computer systems safe from unauthorized users or hackers is becoming

ever more important especially as technology is advancing and everything is becoming digital.

This can be a very rewarding field to make a difference in the world.

One of the other careers that is available with a computer science degree is information

technology or I.T. As with the other careers that were covered earlier, information technology

offers a wide selection of specialties. There are infrastructure architects who are responsible for

designing and developing the foundations for the computer networks. Systems managers are

responsible for knowing the system down to every detail. Technical consultants can either work

independently or for a company helping the employees learn how to use the product specific to

their job.

There are a lot of different career paths to take with this degree the career outlook for

almost all the jobs under the computer science field have a great future. In fact, the job outlook

for the years 2014-2024 in many of these careers are much higher than the national average.

Security analysts are expected to rise 18 percent in that period. ("occupational outlook"

2017) Many of the other careers like information management, software developers and

engineers are in the same demand.

Computers are not going away they are just getting increasingly engrained in our society

and play an important role in our world from business to medical to education needs. Getting a

degree in computer science will provide a bright future and a very rewarding work environment

no matter which career path is taken. The workforce needs skilled laborers who know how to

code, how to run the systems and how to protect the systems. Getting this degree is one of the

best decisions someone can make right now who is going through college trying to decide what

career to pursue.
