ing the Aadhaar number
mandatory to register all
deaths from October 1 this
year. The home ministry has
said anyone applying for a
death certificate from October
1 would have to furnish either
the Aadhaar number or the
Enrolment ID (EID) number of
the deceased, in addition to all
other details sought in the
application form.
However, in case the appli-
cant is not aware of either the
Aadhaar or EID number of the
deceased, the concerned per-
son would have to certify that
the deceased person did not
have an Aaadhar or EID num-
ber to the best of his or her
knowledge.

and swerved to the left. While
doing so he lost control, hit an

rushed to a nearby hospital.
One of the three men suffered
a fracture on the hand. Police
said that by the time they
arrived at the spot the victims
were shifted to hospital. They
seized the vehicle and formed

He suffered 80 per cent
burn injuries when the
fire bounced back and his
body caught fire. He died
while undergoing treatm-
ent at a private hospital
in Hyderabad on August
1.
Vishwanath was alone
in his grandmothers
house in Hanumanagar
colony in Manthani town,
Peddapalli district, on
July 31 afternoon. He had
just seen a TV reality
show which demonstrat-
ed the kerosene fire
breathing technique and
tried to do the same in the
bathroom of his house.
Neighbours noticed
smoke coming from the
house and heard

for help. They rushed to
his rescue but he was
already burnt by then. He

he bond between a brother and a sister is
unique. It is full of love, unconditional
support, camaraderie, fights and friend-
ship. Our festivals like Rakshabandhan and
Bhai Dooj beautifully seek to strengthen the
bond between brothers and sisters.
Rakshabandhan is celebrated on the full
moon day of Shravan. It has great significance
for the entire Indian subcontinent, as it is con-
nected to the arrival of the South-West mon-
soons. Shravan is also considered a month of
upvaas or fasting.
Etymologically, Raksha means protection
and Bandhan connotes the strong brother-sis-
ter bond. Thus, this occasion beautifully sig-
nifies the enhanced ties between brothers and
sisters reinforcing mutual protection, vital
support and amicable understanding.
On Rakshabandhan, sisters tie the thread
called Rakhi on her brothers wrist. This beau-
tiful thread is believed to protect her brother
from all jinxes and hexes in life. In return,
brothers take an oath that they will stand by
their sisters, both in joy and grief.
This is something which is similar to the
Islamic concept of Sila Rahmi (strengthening
the ties of kinship). Prophet Mohammad laid
great emphasis on evolving relationship with
all family members, particularly between the
brothers and sisters. One of his traditions is:

the poor is virtuous, but
an ordinary act. However,
by giving charity to a rela-
tive (especially brother
and sister), one achieves
two noble objectives:
sadaqah and silah rahmi
(upholding the family
bond).
However, Prophet Mohammad cautioned
about the sibling rivalry or envy which some-
times turns into an unfavourable form of Qata
al-Rahm (severing family ties) leading to a dis-
astrous result. As a matter of fact, sibling
rivalry is an inbuilt human emotion that turns
into ethical flaw, when it involves vying for
parental compassion, attention or primacy or
preference over the other siblings. Such kind
of envy (rashk) is an inherent and indispensa-
ble trait that can be overlooked until it takes an
ugly form of jealousy (hasad) which is not
healthy or positive in any way. In his word of
caution, the Prophet stated: beware of jeal-
ousy; for jealousy eats good deeds just as the
fire eats wood. But at the same time, the

National selectors
want pay rise
New Delhi: National selectors
both junior and senior have
requested the BCCI to revise
their salaries after the Indian
cricket board revealed that it is
considering a pay hike for
domestic cricketers and match
officials.
It has been learnt from a top
official that BCCI received a
few proposals on the revised
pay structure with one being
submitted by a member associ-
ated with the junior selection
panel.
Currently, the senior national
selection committee members
get Rs 60 lakh per season while
the junior panel members
receive Rs 40 lakh per annum.
This has been the pay structure
since 2012 and has not under-
gone any revision.
Yes, we have received multiple
proposals with regards to revi-
sion of pay for national selec-
tors. One of the points raised
by a number of people is that
chairman of both selection
committees should get more
than other members as the job
profile carries more responsibil-
ity, a BCCI official said.
