Objectives:

To demonstrate proper handwashing


To give a lecture on the benefits of handwashing especially with regards to URTI prevention
To be able to evaluate the lecture by having a return demonstration on proper handwashing

Topics:

1. What is Handwashing?
2. Why do we need to wash Hands?.
3. When to wash Hands?
4. How to wash Hands?.

1. What is handwashing? (Anu and ibig sabihin ng paghuhugas ng kamay?)

The action or process of washing ones hands.


(Ang aksyon o proseso ng paghuhugas ng mga kamay)

The act of cleansing the hands with water or other liquid, with or without the inclusion of soap
or other detergent, for the purpose of removing soil or microorganisms.
(Ang aksyon ng paglilinis ng mga kamay sa tubig o iba pang likido, na may o walang pagamit ng
sabon o iba pang detergent, para sa layunin ng pag-alis ng lupa o mga mikroorganismo.)
2. Why do we need to wash Hands?

How do germs spread?

Touching dirty hands


Changing dirty diapers
Through contaminated water and food
Through droplets in the air released during cough or sneeze
On contaminated surfaces
Through contact with the sick persons body fluids

How do clean hands help?

Good handwashing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses from the
common cold to more serious infections, such as meningitis, bronchiolitis, the flu, hepatitis A, and many
types of diarrhea.

3. When to wash Hands?

Before eating and cooking


After using the bathroom
After cleaning around the house
After touching animals, including family pets
Before and after visiting or taking care of any sick friends or relatives
After blowing ones nose, coughing or sneezing
After being outside (playing, gardening, walking the dog, etc.

4. How to wash Hands?

*Ask for at least 2-3 volunteers to demonstrate proper handwashing after the lecture.
