MOUNT SINABUNGS ERUPTION

The Jakarta Post Sinabung not National Disaster, BNPB says The National Disaster
Mitigation Agency (BNPB) emphasized that the Mount Sinabungs eruption in North Sumatra was
a regional and national disaster.
BNPB chief spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the Karo and North Sumatra regional
administrations were still running normally and nothing had paralyzed the regional administrations.
Despite almost 95 percent of the assistance being from the central government, this is not a national
disaster, he told Antara news agency.
Even in the post-disaster phase, the central government will still be involved in rehabilitation and
reconstruction.
Sutopo said the problem with the Mt. Sinabung eruption is the absence of a Regional Disaster
Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in Karo regency. Lava runs down Mount Sinabung following the June
2015 eruption.

Sumatera Utara masih berjalan normal dan tidak ada yang melumpuhkan pemerintah daerah.
Meskipun hampir 95 persen dari bantuan berasal dari pemerintah pusat, ini bukanlah bencana
nasional, kata beliau kepada Kantor Berita Antara.
Bahkan dalam tahap pasca bencana, pemerintah pusat masih akan terlibat dalam rehabilitasi dan
rekonstruksi.
Sutopo mengatakan masalah terhadap letusan Gunung Sinabung adalah tidak adanya Badan
Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) di Kabupaten Karo. Gunung Sinabung meletus
mengucurkan lava pada bulan Juni 2015.
