Plumbing Testing

1. Scope

1.1 This Method Statement describes the method of pressure test for water supply pipes in the
substation.
1.2 This Method Statement covers step by step procedure of pressure testing.

2. Related Documents

1.1 Approved Plumbing Drawings.


1.2 HSE Health , Safety and Environment Plan.
1.3 Risk Assessment ( Safety Engineer )
1.4 Plumbing Materials ( Approved Materials )
1.5 National Grid Specification.

3. Testing Sequence and Methodology

Prior to the start of testing the following shall be checked:


Plumbing materials should be as per 75-TMSS-01.
Plumbing installation should be as per approved drawing.
All pipe joints must be exposed.

Testing Procedure

Pipe must be filled with water.


All air must be removed from the system through valve.
The pressure test pump must be tap through valve.
The pressure must be set as per ASTM D1785 - Table 4 (for PVC Sch.80), ASTM D1785 - Table 3
(for PVC Sch.40) and ASTM F441 Table 3 (for CPVC Sch.80) as defined in ASTM D1598.
Record the initial reading of the pressure gage.
Visually Inspect the fittings and connections for leaks for certain period of time.
The test should last 24hrs.
Check the final reading of the pressure gage.
If leakage and losses in pressure is observe the pipe system must be repair and retest.

Civil Site Manager
Site Engineer
General Foreman
QA/QC Engineer
Safety Engineer
3rd Party

Labor Team will consist of:


Plumber

Welfare and first aid

Welfare facilities for this work will be located at the site installation area.
Shaded rest areas and drinking water will be available at all times.
Trained and equipped first aid staff will be on site at all times, the first aid
provisions are kept in the first aid station.
The HSE Plan outlines provisions in place, applicable in the event of an emergency.

6. Responsibilities

Civil Site Manager will be responsible for the overall construction activities.
Site Engineer and the Foreman are to implement this method statement.
QA/QC Civil Engineer will be responsible for Inspection.
Safety Engineer is to ensure that all necessary safety measures are in place at the
location of the works.

7. Safety

The Safety of all personnel and equipment is our First priority during the execution of the works:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All project personnel, subcontractors and visitors will be required to wear

as a minimum the following PPE:
Safety shoes (with steel toecaps and insoles)
Safety helmets
High visible jacket

Compulsory PPE for labor in addition to the above :

Coverall as protective clothing


Gloves

Toolbox Talks (TBT)

Safety Engineer will give toolbox talks.


All attendees will sign to say they have been briefed and understand
all recommendations set out by the Toolbox Talk
