DESIGN OBJECTIVES

To design a hotel that compliments with the nature

To design a hotel wherein natural ventilation will be maximized

To design a hotel that enhances:

indoor air quality (IAQ)

thermal quality

lighting quality

DESIGN CONCEPT
MODERN TROPICAL ARCHITECTURE

SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGHT

The site is along the national highway

It has a bounty of trees

Adjacent to santa fe and dupax where they have a tourist destination places

WEAKNESS

Far from market

OPPURTUNITIES

It can have a more job oppurtunities for the residents of aritao

THREATS

Natural calamities like typhoons

DESIGN SOLUTIONS AND CRITERIA

Proper Orientation
Good orientation is an essential start of a low energy consuming building.

Poor orientation contributes considerably to the heat load of a house.

To prevent low morning and afternoon sun from heating up the house, minimize the
size of east and west facing wall areas and avoid windows in these walls unless well
shaded.

s
Cross Ventilation
Cross ventilation is having more than one opening in a given space but more appropriately, it is
when a given space is bridged by openings from the pressure area (positive pressure) to the
suction area (negative pressure).

INDOOR GARDEN
Putting indoor garden with water feature below the atrium can have a cooling effect
inside a tall building

VERANDAHS

This wide verandah provides shading to the walls, allows doors/windows to be left open even
in driving rain and the lined soffit protects the walls from radiant heat as well as providing a
entertaining area

PLACEMENT OF SOLAR PANELS

Minimal high vegetation on northern side ensures that solar equipment receives
maximum sunlight between 10am and 3pm, the most productive sunlight hours.

Can cause a low energy cost

Vegetation
They help lessen temperature by providing shade (absorbing and reflecting solar
reduction) and by increasing humidity.

Use to block unwanted wind and funnel desired wind.

Vegetation can use as windbreaks/protection from storm winds.

Nearby vegetation creates an envelope of cool air around the house and encourages the
circulation of cooling breezes.

Tall trees can shade roofs and reduce temperatures. Trees, shrubs and vines that shade
the ground or buildings in the afternoon reduce the local temperature. Plants cool by
evaporating moisture as well as by shading, like natural air conditioners

Green Wall and Green roofing System

Regulate temperature and reduce carbon footprint

Improve air quality

Reduce noise

Reduce heat gain

MATERIALS
Wool Bricks

Developed by Spanish and Scottish researchers with an aim to obtain a composite that was
more sustainable, non-toxic, using abundant local materials that would mechanically improve
the bricks strength, these wool bricks are exactly what the name suggests. Simply by adding
wool and a natural polymer found in seaweed to the clay of the brick, the brick is 37% stronger
than other bricks, and more resistant to the cold wet climate often found in Britain. They also
dry hard, reducing the embodied energy as they dont need to be fired like traditional bricks.

Sustainable Concrete

Concrete is an ideal place to start, partly because almost every building uses it, but
mostly due to the fact that concrete is responsible for a staggering 7-10% of global CO2
emission.

More sustainable forms of concrete exist that use recycled materials in the mix. Crushed
glass can be added, as can wood chips or slag a byproduct of steel manufacturing by simply
using a material that would have otherwise gone to waste, the CO2 emissions associated with
concrete are reduced.
