CHILD FRIENDLY WEEKEND GETAWAYS FROM BANGALORE

TGIF! Am I right? And what could be better than a long weekend! With our weekdays being so jam packed it is little wonder that we all look
forward eagerly to long weekends, regular weekends seem so short right?

So this weekend, if you are in Bangalore, do we have a treat for you! In my home, I love going to themovies and shopping, my husband
loves cooking and reading, and my daughter obviously doesnt like either and loves going to the park, watching her cartoon or visiting her
cousins and grandparents. But one thing all three of us absolutely love is packing our bags and getting away, to just about anywhere.

There is absolutely no dearth of places to visit near Bangalore. You can visit one every weekend for an entire year no exaggeration here!
A simple google search can give you hundreds of options to choose from. What I am listing below are my favourite picks amongst the best
weekend getawaysfrom Bangalore while travelling with kids.

Mysore

You just have to pay a visit to the Mysore Zoo. So if you havent yet taken your kids, stop reading and start driving! Its one of the best zoos
in India and can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. Besides the zoo, the Brindavan Gardens and the musical fountain is something children
will definitely enjoy. You could do a day trip to Mysore or even plan to stay back a day and visit the Rangantittu bird sanctuary on your way
back. (Especially during the bird migrating season)

Coorg
11

We love Coorg and hope to retire and settle in a coffee estate and drink coffee all day in the near future! Besides making retirement plans,
Coorg is also a great place to take your children. My daughters favourite things to do in Coorg are deer feeding at Nisargdham, elephant
bathing at Dubbare, mini toy train ride near the Kings seat, plantation treks and a long nature walk.

Tip: Skip all the resorts and choose from one of the multiple homestay options. My recommendations are The Elephant
Corridor and Palace Estate.

Nagarhole and Iruppu

Iruppu is one of the best waterfalls to take your kids to because its one of the very few waterfalls where you can allow your kids to play in
the water and is not too risky. Do check on the right season to visit though. The Nagarhole sanctuary has a very good safari which the kids
will enjoy and if you are really lucky you could even spot a tiger. Not just during the safari, even during our drive to and fro we spotted many
deer, peacocks, monkeys, and elephants.

Tip: If you are there during a long weekend, try and catch the first or second early morning safari slot to avoid the crowd. There are no prior
reservations for the safari tickets.

Ooty
12
Despite the commercialization, there is something about Ooty that will always make you visit again and again. (Dont miss our Travel
Diaries to Coonoor) When you are here with the kids, dont miss the toy train, boating at the Ooty lake, and the botanical garden. And of
course dont forget to shop for Ootys famous chocolates.

Tip: There are a few really good farmstays in Ooty and would really recommend you choose one of these if available.

Pondicherry

If there is one thing I really miss in Bangalore, it is the sea. The sand, the beach, the sea food.sigh! And the closest beach destination to
Bangalore would be Pondicherry which is just about six hours away by car. Pick a beach front resort or hotel and just lay around on the
beach. If you enjoy being at the beach as much as my daughter and I do, you wouldnt add anything else to the itinerary. But yes, you cant
miss the Auroville ashram on a visit to Pondicherry.

These were my top 5 recommendations for long weekends. Here are some more for wildlifeenthusiasts:
Bandipur
Masinagudi
Kabini
Dandeli
BRT sanctuary

Children who are nature enthusiasts:

Chikmagalur
Bheemeshwari
Wayanad
Yercaud

Always remember:

1. Plan your weekend trips well in advance so you are not caught looking for accommodation.
2. During long weekends, start from home early, before 7am or you will waste time in traffic.
3. Make sure to carry plenty of fun things for your kids in the car to pass time.
