WITH WORD CARDS FOR SPELLING GAMES — : @ Ladybird This book contains enjoyable and interesting activities to give children extra practice in written and spoken language. Working Together Although your child is already able to read and write, it is still helpful, and much more fun, if you go through the book together. Talk about the instructions before the child begins. Provide extra paper so that he or she can repeat the exercise using different examples. One way of making sure that a child has understood the work is to ask him or her to set a similar exercise for you and then mark it. Spelling Many of the activities are to help with spelling. One of the best ways of practising is called LOOK-SAY-COVER-WRITE- CHECK. The child looks carefully at the word and says it aloud. Then he or she covers up the word and writes it. Finally the word is checked. Use this method for any words that your child finds difficult. Remember that although English skills are very, very important, playing with language can be great fun, too! NRA . oy 8 . PLEASE NOTE THAT IDEAS 2.
