This feature improves the operability of the license files. The license reference and targetID are preserved
for the lifetime of the BTS regardless of whether hardware modules such as FSMX or FRXX are replaced.
In addition, automatic license synchronization guarantees the alignment of the License Manager at the
o FSMX and FRXX must not be replaced both at the same time, otherwise the targetID is changed.
o There must be a 24h time span (time stamp update interval) before FSMX or FRXX can be re-
used on a different site. Alternatively, a BTS reset can be triggered before the HW module is
replaced. The reset causes an immediate update of the time stamp stored at FSMX and FRXX.
Benefits
Operator benefits
This feature improves the operability of License Management. HW replacement, for example, FSMX does
not require the substitution of license files. The license files are automatically aligned between License
Manager and Flexi BTS. This feature is the first step towards the autonomous License Management

Functional description
Functional overview
With this feature, the targetID is no longer HW related, but remains unchanged in the case of a System
o The substitution process after the System Module swap is not required
o The Flexi BTS generates a unique number during the first BTS commissioning and uses this
o At every restart, an automatic license synchronization takes place in order to keep the license
o As a result of the backward compatibility the Flexi BTS is able to use the already installed
license files and targetIDs. Hence, an upgrade to RU20 does not have any effect on the
Implementation in RAN
This feature affects mainly the BTS for the generation of the targetID as well as the life-time storage of
the targetIDs. In addition, the automatic license synchronization which takes place at every restart makes
use of the already installed message interface between NetAct and the BTS.
RU20 uses the same set of licenses (smooth upgrade). RU10 licenses targeted for the BTS
(generated originally in RU10) are valid. The BTS logical targetID in RU20 is the same as in
RU10.
The targetID is changed to the new RU20 format if RU10 BTS does not have any licenses
