When we read the story we came to know that Antony used a lot of rhetoric techniques in favor of Julius

Caesar since he was in such a position where cannot speak openly against of Brutus and other
conspirator. On the same time he tries to clear of the position of Julius as a sincere leader to Rome. We
will look at few examples in his speech.

Antony tells Plebeians that they should not disapprove of Brutus of his actions but they should still
remember Caesar as a great leader and war hero. He repeats the word Honorable several time in his
speech, he said this in order to emphasize Brutus honorability and make the Plebeians question it.
Antony repeats the word ambitious many times to mock Brutus as Brutus was trying to justify killing of
Caesar by calling himself Ambitious for romans while Antony wanted to prove that Caesar was too
ambitious as compared to Brutus. Every time he uses that word, he describes an honorable trait of
Caesar that contradicts Brutus accusation. For example, he mentions that Caesar refused the crown
three times, and asks the Plebeians whether if that would be considered ambitious.

My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar and I must pause till it come to me. Antony uses pathos to
draw emotions out of the Plebeians. This quote emphasizes how much Antony loved Caesar. Antonys
grief makes the people of Rome sympathetic to him, which leads to them believing that murder of
Caesar was heartless and insensitive. When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept; Ambition
should be made of sterner stuff. Antony says this to show that Caesar was a good leader who card
much about his people. Thus sharing Caesars sympathetic nature towards the people of Rome, Antony
makes the Plebeians feel that the conspirators had wrongfully murdered a good man. This incites anger
in the crowd for Caesars death.
