A Trends and Issues of Wound Care Management in Indonesia

A management of wounds infection such chronic wound can be especially challenging
and in Indonesia must be considerate of the patient's psychological, social , economic and spiritual needs. In addition, one of the chronic infection wound is diabetic foot ulcer. One of the diseases which the government must spend most financing is diabetes mellitus. Nurse specialisation is relatively new to Indonesia. Enterostomal Therapy Nursing Education Programmes (ETNEPs) have been available since 2005 and have since then graduated over 100 Indonesian nurses. To address health problems, especially chronic conditions, the government gave authority to the health organizations where one of them is nursing organizations. To overcome the chronic health problems such as diabetes chronic wounds, needed professionals in the health service in the community and clinical setting. InWOCNA is one of the nursing organization that handles health issues of chronic conditions such as chronic wounds. The WOC nurse, has full authority to implement the nursing care of chronic health problems in the community. InWOCNA designed the standards of health services: diagnosis, planning, implementing, or managing wound management including sharp debridement procedures, the use of advanced tools in accelerating healing (in the chronic wounds), ethic, evaluation and documentation.InWOCNA also has designed the standards of education and training by adopting the Japanese education system, level WOC nurse and credential systems. More than 100 WOC nurses who carry out independent practice in the community and have a very good impact on chronic health care issues. In Indonesia, specialist nurse educations and a master's in nursing have been held, however only one university with a doctoral program at this time. When compared with developed countries such as Japan, nurse education at the doctoral level is progressing very rapidly. Keywords: WOC in Indonesia , Chronic Wound, Standard Competency
