ABSTRACT

-karoten is provitamin a that gives color yellow to orange in plants and play an
important role for the establishment of vitamin a. Leaves mengkudu is groceries that
have the karoten. The research is aimed to determine -content -karoten on the
leaves mengkudu with several variables the way planting , age leaves , the condition
of leaves , and methods extraction . Leaves mengkudu young , fresh , old and dry
have dirajang with the size of 2 mm extracted by using ethanol absolute p.a with the
methods maceration and digesti . After the process of extracting done then volatilized until
it becomes extract viscous . Results of the extract obtained subsequently used for the analysis
of qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis -karoten with the methods
carr-price. The determination of the -karoten done with the methods spektrofotometri uv-
visibel at wavelengths absorption 452,0 nm. Qualitative test results in the methods of
extraction maceration showed that in the leaves mengkudu young, leaves mengkudu fresh,
and leaves mengkudu old identified the -karoten on the leaves megkudu obtained in the
cultivation and in growing wild, in the methods of extraction digesti were not identified the
-karoten good obtained from in the cultivation and in growing wild. Of the quantitative the
results levels -karoten on the leaves mengkudu obtained in cultivation namely leaves
mengkudu young of 3.7 mg / 100 grams , leaves mengkudu fresh of 8.1 mg / 100 grams , and
leaves mengkudu old 4.7 mg / 100 grams . And the outcome of the level of -karoten on the
leaves mengkudu obtained in a riotous manner which is leaves mengkudu young as much as
3.3 mg / 100 grams , fresh leaves mengkudu of 7.2 mg / 100 grams , and leaves mengkudu by
4.5 old mg / 100 grams .
