SHOTS & SHORTS Theatre Company
!
MISSION: Our mission at SHOTS & SHORTS is to encourage young adult
audiences, ages 20 to 40, to get involved with theatre and support local
business.
!
WHY: Theatre is awesome. We as actors, designers, and directors know that,
but other young adults like ourselves have not been offered the same the
fortunate opportunities to become exposed to great theatre with great
messages. Two things stand in the way of them experiencing this: a lack of
desire to spend 4 hours sitting quietly in a traditional theatre seat and
expensive ticket prices. We have eliminated the need for both of those.
!
HOW: We have decided to partner with a local bar/tavern. In exchange for
high attendance in paying customers, they allow us to use their space for
theatrical events and receive cover charge as payment. By incorporating
theatre into a social setting such as a partnership with a bar/restaurant, it
becomes a part of the guests life as opposed to an time-consuming and
money-consuming event. We use an abbreviated, less formal, model of
presentation to promote higher attendance. Instead of needing to set aside an
entire night for dinner, a three hour show, and drinks, guests can now enjoy
theatre in a social setting.
!
!
PLANNED ACTIVITIES:
Each night of theatre (Tuesday - Saturday nights) is broken down into
three sets: the 7:00 show, which includes adapted classics; the 9:00 which
includes newly written, possibly better known, produced work; and an 11:00
which includes 50 minutes of theatre for social change presented in the form of
multiple 10-minute or less satires subjected on current events. At any showtime
guests can enjoy interactions with other guests as well as drinks and food from
the bar. This does not mean the theatrical happenings take second place to
dining out, but rather becomes an incorporated element to the evening.
Guests can either pop into one show or stay for all three. Cover charge would
exist on a sliding scale ranging from $8 for one show, $15 for two, $20 for
threeetc. Each rotation of shows would run for two weeks while the
ensemble is simultaneously rehearsing for the next round.
!
Hired personnel: Directors (2 resident), Actors (Repertory Ensemble of 10 that
are hired annually), Design Technicians (1 in house, there are minimal technical
aspects in our productions), Advertising Intern (1, hired biannually and works
on a small stipend and would be responsible for social media promotion and
live-streaming), and volunteers (who receive free entrance but would be
responsible for admission transactions).
!
Budget: If awarded this grant, we would use the money to fund the cost of the
play rights, pay our employees, rent rehearsal space, and purchase necessary
equipment and tools to advertise the shows. The plus side of working in
tandem with an established restaurant/bar/tavern, is that we dont have to
worry about lease payment, utilities or liquor licenses. People also have a
better frame of reference of where to go. The grant should afford us at
minimum two months, by which time we should have recouped enough to
sustain ourselves. If 50 people purchase a ticket averaging at $10/each, we
would make $10,000/month.
