1. (a) Compare lumped circuits with distributed circuits.


(b) Determine the equivalent resistance between the terminals A and B in the
circuit shown in figure 1. All the resistances are in Ohms. [4+12]

2. The resistor R in series with capacitance C is connected to a 50Hz, 240 V supply.

Find the value of C so that R absorbs 300 watts at 100 volts. Find also the
maximum charge and the maximum stored energy in C. [16]

3. A three phase balanced delta connected load of (4 +j8) is connected across a


400 V, 3 phase balanced supply. Determine the phase currents and line currents.
Assume the phase sequence to be RYB. Also calculate the power drawn by the
load. [16]

4. Draw the oriented network graph from the incidence matrix given below. [16]

1. Three resistors 8 ohms, 6 ohms and 10 ohms are connected in series to a battery of
terminal voltage 24 volts. Find the current in the circuit, P.D. across each resistor
and power dissipated in each resistor. [16]

2. The combined inductance of two coils when connected series is 1H or 0.2 H depend-
ing on the relative directions of the currents in the coils. If the self inductance of

one of the coils when isolated is 0.2 H, calculate the self inductance of the other
coil and the mutual inductance between them. Derive the expression used. [16]

2. Derive expressions for impedance, p.f., current of a RL series circuit supplied with

3. A series RLC circuit has an impedance of 40 at a frequency of 200 rad /s. When
the circuit is excited by a 10V source of variable frequency the circuit resonates at
a frequency of 250 rad /s. The current at resonance is 0.5 A and the quality factor
at resonance is 10. Determine the circuit parameters. [16]

4. In the network shown in figure 4 the numerical values of resistances also indicate
the branch numbers. Write the oriented graph of the network. Select a tree with
branches 1, 2, 3 as the tree branches, write tie-set and cut-set schedule.
