ExyCe/T/414/2016 Bachelor of Civil Engineering examination , 2016 (BCE - 4" year- 1" semester) Design of Concrete Structures II Time: 3 hours Full marks : 400 The figures in the margin indicate full marks Part-1( 50 marks } Assume reasonable value of any data if required 1.456 and SP 16 are allowed in the examination hall Answer any TWO questions 25 1, Designa short RCC column with a suitable Pile cap against an axial compressive force of P=2600 KN and biaxial moments M.=160 KN-m and M,= 145 KN-m, Use 500 dia. RCC piles of design vertical load carrying capacity = SOOKN. Grade of concrete M25. Grade of steel Fe 415, Apply Limit State Method of design as per 1S 456, Partial safety factor against load and moments may be considered 1.2. Show detail of reinforcements through neat sketches, 25 2. Design a Cantilever T-type retaining wall to retain a soil of full height 6m and an uniformly distributed surcharged load of 10 KN/m? at top surface level . Safe bearing Capacity of cohesionless Soll = 250 KN/m?, ys= 16KN/m? , = 30°. Grade of concrete M25 . Grade of steel Fe 415, Show detail of reinforcements through neat sketches. 12+13= 25, ‘3{a)_ Check the stability of a Cantilever ‘T-type retaining wall retaining a soil of full height 4m and an Uniformly distributed surcharged load of 20 KN/m? at top surface level. Safe bearing capacity of Cohesionless soll = 250 KN/m*. ys= 16 KN/m?, d= 30° . Thickness of stem and base slab are 300mm and 400mm respectively. "Design the short wall of a RCC underground water tank ( 6m x 2.9m x2,5m high ). Water table may be considered at GL. Cohesionless soil ,ys= 16 KN/m?, = 30°, oy =1.2 N/mm?.Fe 415 'HYSD bars and M20 concrete to be used. Draw detail of reinforcements through neat sketches. B.C.E Examination ,2016 a year, ist semester ref Ex/CE/T/414/2016 Design of Concrete structures I Time 3 hours Full Marks 100 Use separate answer script for each part Part -il Answer any two questions Assume reasonable values of any data if required 1S 1893, IRC-6 and IRC 21 are allowed in the examination hall Notations have their usual meaning Q1 AG+i0 storey RCC hospital b (20m x 20m in plan) is to be constructed at New Dethi. Columns are placed Sm c/c along both direction. Floor to floor height is 3.4m except ground floor which is 2.9 m for parking. The service block is separated structurally from the main building by expansion joint. Determine the design wind pressure and forces in the frame. Calculate also the bending moment and shear fore on an internal frame (with diagram) at 6th floor level only. Take the plinth level is 100 mm above ground level and top of the pile cap is 500mm below Ground level. (b) What is load balancing concept in pre-stressed concrete ? 2065 Q.2 (a) “ The approximate natural time period as per IS 1893 part-1 Is to be considered in the seismic, analysis even though one may obtain an exact value of time period , especially for irregular building , by using a standard dynamic analysis through computer program” - Exptain {b) List the load combinations (Limit state Method) for a non orthogonal building under Dead Load, ve Load and Earthquake Load (assume Wind Load is not significant). () “To find out the reaction factor for the central girder of a typical three girders R CC bridges, tthe live loads are positioned nearer to the kerb” ~ Explain (4) What are the differences between Pre-tension and post-tension system in Pre-stressed Concrete structures? What are the different types of losses in pre-stressing? {e) Apre-stressed concrete beam of cross-section 400 mm x 600 mm deep is simply supported over ‘a span of 10m. The beam is pre-tensioned by 6 tendons of 300 mm? each. The tendons are located at 200mm from bottom. The Initial pre-stress in the tendons is 1500 MPa. Assume 15% loss of pre-stress, Calculate the uniformly distributed load that the beam can carry considering the initial and final stage if the permissible stresses in initial stage be 12 MPa in compression and 3 MPa in tension and in final stage be 20 MPa in compression and 3.5 MPa in tension. 3434343413 03. (a) A RCC tee beam ( simply supported) bridge is to be constructed over a river . The following data is given: © Clear width of roadways = 7.5 m ‘© Span of the bridge = 16 m Average thickness of wearing coat = 100 mm ‘Thickness of deck slab = 270 mm © Number of main girders = 3 © Number of cross girders = 6 ‘* Spacing of the main girders = 2.7m © Size of kerb= 300mm (depth) X 600 mm (width) Determine the maximum bending moment in the central girder due to Class AA wheeled loading only. (b) What are the advantages of shear walls over moment — resistant frames in tall buildings ?
