Cycle 2: Task 1: Evidence for evolution research task 10%

Evidence for Evolution


Many different types of evidence are analysed to help put together the tree of
life and furthermore identify ancestors of modern day and extinct
organisms. Your task to research the different
types of evidence currently used to piece together
our evolutionary history.

The following needs to be included in your


research:

1. How fossils are formed (2)


2. The difference between relative and absolute
dating (1)
3. A brief description of the type of evidence and how it is used in
deciding how related organisms are. This should be approximately 5
sentences. Diagrams can be use in place of text but need to be referred to
and discussed. Include the all types of evidence on the list below (2
marks each):
a. Comparative anatomy
b. Vestigial structures
c. Embryos
d. Amino acids and proteins
e. DNA
f. Biogeography

Work can be completed by hand in your workbook or produces on your


laptop. How you present your work is up to you get creative if you like!
