 INTRODUCTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
AchimotaPharmacy is a notable community pharmacy in the Accra that honours it code
of providing good and affordable pharmaceutical care for its patients in the best way
possible

The following are the aims and objectives of Health Tower Pharmacy:
Ensuring good patient welfare
Quality and effective delivery of medicament through vivid counseling
Maintaining long lasting relations between patients and staff
Offering of effective solutions to various health care challenges
Impacting of good knowledge and medication information to new interns.

DRUG INFORMATION
Health tower pharmacy drug stock is of all the various classes (A, B, C,) with the class A
medicament issued only based on prescriptions.

MEDICATION THERAPY MANAGEMENT (MTM)
Medication Therapy Management (MTM) in Health Tower Pharmacy is quite a thrill.
Various diligent methods are put in place to manage these therapy sections. Daily
prescriptions are analyzed with full supervision before drug medicaments are delivered.
They deal in accordance with the rule that; understanding the prescription is the key to
the solution. Proper patients counseling on drug regimen is given to patients, ensuring
that the dosage, use and regular side effects of medications are completely specified.

DOCUMENTATION
Proper record keeping is also diligently exercised by Health Tower Pharmacy. They
make sure all stock supplies delivered are properly checked and stored within
management standard. Serving and monitory aids are also kept in record. Drug regimens
of specific patients with overriding concerns are stored in record documents.
Documentation of drug disease symptoms and diagnosis are also made for easy referral.

DISCUSSIONS

Health Tower Pharmacy has helped enhanced my academic knowledge and skills.
Classroom studies are confined only to books and theoretical learning majorly, but this
practical study has really solidified my intelligence in the pharmacy profession. Working
at the pharmacy, the major task of an apprentice is to deal and handle prescriptions and
after taking a brief history of patients, asking about their past therapy, family background,
socio-economic status and finally discussing the prescribed medication in a way to guide
the patients properly regarding the use, intake, storage, frequency and time of medication.

I also needed to analyze the prescriptions critically in order to sort out any possible drug-
drug or drug-food interaction under the supervision of Pharmacist Mark Bekoe. Most of
the time, he asked me questions about drug use and abuse, especially he gave special
consideration to antibiotics (class / therapeutic use) because these are the most prescribed
drugs. Also, he gave special attention to analgesics and CVS drugs.

The dealing staff co-operated their best by providing all the basic information I will need
regarding dealing with patients and customer receipt generation, billing and receiving of
cash. They also provided me with the information leaflet of different medicines and urged
me to constantly read them to gain more knowledge about the pharmacodynamics and
pharmacokinetics properties of drugs. They also motivated patients to take guidance from
pharmacist.

Pharm Mark Bekoe also paid constant visit to the pharmacy at all times to give advice
and suggestions on good practice. He also kept a continuous eye on the activities of
apprentices and guided us on regular basis and also he used to check our duty registers,
records and attendances. Furthermore, he encouraged me to take special interest in the
latest applications as well as inventions in pharmaceutical sciences and services.

In short, the experience at Health Tower Pharmacy was an inspiring one and made me
able to understand the practical aspect of pharmacy in an efficient way.

CONCLUSION

Though serving on humanity is not only a persons responsibility, but also of the
community. Thus no work is penniless rather the knowledge it keeps in. Internship at any
working area is a great working experience itself. Health Tower Pharmacy has really
lifted high the flag of good pharmaceutical care and development.

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend that, good equipped institutes with well qualified developed personnel
should be made available to all new upcoming pharmacists to fully equip them for the
good work that lies ahead.
