Introduction: I am Mrs. Boykin your childs 6th or 7th grade mathematics teacher. Since coming to Burton International
Ive taught grades 3-8 mathematics during the regular school year and k-8 mathematics during summer school sessions.
I currently teach mathematics for grades 6 and 7.

Overview: Together we will work very hard to incorporate the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practices needed for your
childs understanding of the Common Core State Standards. Sixth graders are using enVisionMATH textbooks. Seventh
graders are using Holt Mathematics Pre-Algebra textbooks. Students also have an online component to their 6 th grade
textbooks. You can use these websites to give your child extra practice, pearsonrealize.com, ixl.com, mathgames.com,
and multiplication.com.

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned daily and due the following day. Students are responsible for recording their homework
assignments in their planners, completing every assignment at home and returning the homework to class the
following day. We will discuss homework assignments during class. If students have questions or did not
understand a problem, this is the time to ask questions and get help. Students should study mathematics each
night, allowing 5 minutes to complete multiplication facts (multiplication.com), review concepts or vocabulary
cards. To view school information or homework assignments, go to www.boykinmath.weebly.com.

Make-up work policy: If you have an excused absence, make arrangements to complete the missing assignments and
assessments within three days of returning to class. It benefits the student to make up missed assignments as soon as
possible and keep current with assignments so they do not fall behind on new material. Please use the homework
website whenever your child is absent and make every effort to allow your child to complete the assignment before your
child returns to school.

Grading break down: 10%-homework (quizzes) 20%-classwork 30%-notes/projects 40%-tests/quizzes (assessments)

Grading Scale: A 100 90 Students will be graded primarily on Tests, Projects,
Quizzes and Class work. Homework is used for review

students enter the room they must take out their supplies and follow written or verbal instructions. After students complete
their Do Now assignments, they can go over their homework and review their vocabulary words. As a class we will review
and discuss the Do Now and homework assignments. Then we will begin our daily lesson, conduct math talk, discuss
what was learned in class and record homework assignments.
