CYCLE TEST-II Subject Name : ME 2202, Engineering Thermodynamics Class: III Semester, B.E., Mech-A Section Date : 03.09.2013, 09.00 am to 09.50 am Marks: 20 Answer all Questions. Part A (2x5=10)
1. State the Kelvin-Planck statement of second law of thermodynamics.
2. State Clasius statement of second law of thermodynamics. 3. State Carnots theorem. 4. What is the difference between a heat pump and refrigerator? 5. Define the term COP .Write the expression for COP of a heat pump and a refrigerator. Part B (1x10=10) 6. a.0.2 kg of air with pressure 1.5 bar, temperature 300 K is compressed to a pressure of 15 bar, according to the law pV1.25=C.Determine (a) Initial and final temperature parameters of the air, (b) work done on or by the air, (c) heat flow to or from the air, and (d) change of entropy stating whether it is an increase or decrease. b.A mass of air is initially at 206C at a pressure of 7 bar and having volume of 0.03 m3.The air is expanded at constant pressure to 0.09 m3,a polytrophic process with n=1.5 is then carried out, followed by a constant temperature process which completes the cycle. All processes are reversible. Sketch the cycle on p-V and T-s planes and find (a) change of entropy during each process, (b) heat received and heat rejected in the cycle, (c) efficiency of the cycle.
