C. Procedure
a. Preparation
1. Greetings
2. Checking of the attendance
3. Checking of the cleanliness in the classroom

4. Motivation
There will be a set of pictures that will be post on the board. The pictures will show the concept of the graph of inverse function. The student will try to
analyze the pictures and the teacher will ask on what they have notice with the pictures individually.

The inverse of a function is a set of ordered pairs formed by reversing the Give the inverse of the following coordinates of each ordered pair.
coordinates of each ordered pair of the function. The domain of the inverse function is
1. (2, -3) 3. (-9, 7) 5. (0,0)
the range of the function and the range of the inverse function is the domain of the
function. 2. (5, 9) 4. (-6, -8)
The symbol f 1 denotes the inverse of a one-to-one function. The symbol f 1 ( x)
is read " f inverse of x " .

Domain and range is important in graphing inverse function. Through the help of
this table we can able to identify the domain and range of different functions easily.

Types of Function Domain Range

Constant Function x | x R y | y c
Linear Function x | x R x | x R
Rational Function:
f ( x)
y
g ( x)
Solve for x in terms of y, x | x R, g ( x) 0 y | y R, g ( y) 0
f ( y)

g ( y)

Example: Determine the domain and range of the function and its inverse function.

Remember that a function f has an inverse if and only if f is one-to-one

function. Recall that a function is one-to-one if and only if each element of the domain is
paired with a unique element of the range and each element of the range is paired with a
unique element of the domain.

A graph of a function has an inverse function if any horizontal line drawn through
it intersects the graph at only one point.
Is the graph has inverse function?

Horizontal line

In addition, if two functions are inverses of each other, then their graphs are
mirror image with respect to the graph of the line y x .
y=x
