Dear Delegates,
I am delighted that you are interested in the Youth In Government program. Youth In
Government has a rich history that started in 1936 in New York State. In 1957, Florida
began offering high school students the opportunity to write legislation, learn parliamentary
procedure, present and argue court cases, and debate with their peers, all to ensure YIGs
motto: Democracy must be learned by each generation.
On the back of this letter are important dates for the 2017-2018 school year. Feel
free to contact me with any questions you or your parents may have about the YIG program.
As a high school delegate from 1991-1995, a college advisor from 1995-2000, and a faculty
advisor from 2011 to today, I have the privilege of knowing firsthand how beneficial this
program is for young people, and I will do anything possible to ensure you have a positive
and successful experience in Youth In Government.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bourque
