About the ADNOC Research and Innovation Center

The ADNOC Research and Innovation Center (ADRIC) at The Petroleum Institute (PI) commenced
operation on August 1, 2016. The ADRIC building represents approximately 23,000 m2 of surface
developed over four levels with approximately 8,000 m2 of laboratory facilities equipped with state-
of the-art research technologies. These laboratory facilities are organized into thirty six discrete
state-of-the-art topical laboratories and offer a multi-user environment for all PI Faculty, Researchers
and Students. Six of the laboratories were developed with PI industrial partners with the objectives
to use up-to-date proven technology and reduce its implementation time. These laboratories are:
PVT Laboratory, developed in association with TOTAL;
MicroCTScanning laboratory, developed in association with TOTAL;
EOR Lab 1: core-flooding units with in-situ monitoring mainly dedicated to low salinity
water injection project, developed in association with BP;
EOR Lab 2: core-flooding units with in-situ monitoring using Medical CTscanner dedicated
to any EOR processes, developed in association with STATOIL;
Automated Chemical formulation Unit for chemical flooding projects, developed in
association with SOLVAY;
Automated Chemical formulation Unit for gas foam projects, developed in association with
SOLVAY.
Centers of Excellence are currently being established in the ADRIC to provide a platform for
industrial collaborations, which will support PI long term strategic fundamental and applied research
and ensure that it produces exploitable deliverables that can be commercialized. Each Center of
Excellence will synergize the expertise from various PI departments to provide a comprehensive
solution through a multi-disciplinary approach.
Currently fifty research engineer, technicians and support staff are working full time in ADRIC, in
addition to project based researchers, students and faculty.
